There is an old adage that individually, people can be very smart, but put them in a group, and dumbness reigns supreme. Unfortunately, there are no calculations that correctly specify how many people need to put their heads together to reach the point of group insanity. However, we all know that twelve seems to have been the smallest number necessary.
After all, thats how many it takes to make up a jury. In recent years, juries have awarded multi-million dollar awards to plaintiffs for spilling hot coffee on themselves and getting burned, smoking cigarettes in boxes with warning labels, even a plaintiff that deliberately laid down on a train track was awarded a huge verdict when she was hit by a train. Twelve seemed to be the magic number alright.

The Supreme Court just affirmed that the Creator endowed me with the unalienable Right to sodomize my neighbor! What am I going to do now? I'm going to Disney! (When was Gay Days?)
To: Maelstrom
The same Supreme Court that two years ago was vilified as
reactionary right-wing because of their ruling in the 2000 election is now being treated by the left as oracles, all seeing and all knowing.

I'm not worried about the approval-of-sodomy-leads-to-gay-marriage argument, as I figure that if the SCOTUS ever approves homosexual marriage, it'll be overruled by a constitutional amendment in about 18 months.

Five is enough, and at times, Four can do it.

I figure that if the SCOTUS ever approves homosexual marriage, it'll be overruled by a constitutional amendment in about 18 months. It'll never happen. Too many Americans are cowed by Political Correctness, and almost all representatives are, too.
Unfortunately, that won't stop the few from demanding and getting a Constitutional Convention going... and then the rabid Lefties use the opportunity to do some real damage... enough that there may well be a reaction by those who were too cowed by PC.

In order for a Constitutional Convention to be called over this issue, you'd have to first have the Congress refuse to pass an amendment covering it on their own, and then you'd have to see 3/4 of the state legislatures pass a resolution calling the convention. I don't think that'll happen, because if there's that much sentiment in the country supporting such an amendment (and I think there is), you'll see the Congresscritters get out in front first and pass the amendment itself.
