He can also have contact with most of his grandchildren via computer. There is a custody battle involving three of his grandchildren, and whether Sandusky can contact those grandchildren is in the hands of another judge. • Adult visitors may also...

School Molestation: Are We Civilized or Just Apathetic? David C. Stolinsky Feb. 6, 2012 On the evening of July 27, 1984 my wife and I were in Westwood, a few blocks from the UCLA campus. It was just before the Los Angeles Olympics, and the streets were crowded. Suddenly we heard many sirens. A man came into the store and announced that someone had driven his car onto the sidewalk on Westwood Boulevard and mowed down many pedestrians. It turned out that the driver had no connection to terrorism. Paramedics and firefighters were triaging the injured. There were...

When the hundreds of thousands of Penn State alumni hear the name JoePa, they think of moral leadership, of the kind of person they aspire to be. Of his warmth, his fatherliness, his steadiness, and his granite character. Joe Paterno was for hundreds of thousands of alumni the very model of the moral ideal of Western humanism. Hundreds of thousands of alumni think a huge injustice was committed against JoePa by the board of trustees, and they have emphatically expressed their sentiments to the new interim president of Penn State during his coast-to-coast series of alumni meetings to damp down...

HAMILTON, Ohio -- A teenager described how she was raped six years ago by a man who fled to Mexico after he was charged with sexually assaulting the girl. The victim, now 15 years old, told jurors Monday that she'd been riding her bike on Father's Day, 2005, when Alfredo Cruz waved her over. The teen said she rode over to Cruz, now 31, and he picked up the purple bicycle with her on in it and took her into his house. She said Cruz put her bicycle in a closet and ordered her to take off her clothes. "He...

Jerry Sandusky, accused of child sex abuse, will be in court soon asking a judge to modify the terms of his bail so he can see his grandchildren. Sandusky, 68, was charged in November with abusing 10 boys over 15 years, many of whom he met through his charity, The Second Mile. As part of a bail agreement that keeps him out of jail but on house arrest, Sandusky is not to have any contact with kids, including his grandchildren. His attorney, Joe Amendola, has said that family members are among those that brought accusations against the former Penn State...

Jerry Sandusky reportedly watched Joe Paterno notch his record 409th victory from the president's box a week before the former Penn State assistant football coach was arrested on charges of child sex abuse in November. A source close to the university's board of trustees told The Patriot-News on Wednesday that Sandusky, 67, was seen in then-president Graham Spanier's box on Oct. 29 and later went to Penn State's Nittany Lion booster club. Earlier Wednesday, former Nittany Lions linebacker Brandon Short told the newspaper he had been told by two independent sources -- whom he did not identify -- that Sandusky...

Jerry Sandusky's book, 'Touched,' helped police investigation into alleged sex crimesBy SARA GANIM, The Patriot-News Published: Sunday, January 08, 2012, 12:01 AM The investigation of Jerry Sandusky took three years. And it took Sandusky himself — through the pages of his autobiography, “Touched” — to help police find Victims 3, 4, 5 and 7. At the end of 2009, police had spent almost a year trying to corroborate claims by a single boy — a 17-year-old Clinton County teen later known as Victim 1 — who had alleged years of sexual abuse by Penn State’s legendary defensive coach. Only one...

The story is familiar by now. Nine years ago, a young football coach at Penn State walked into the locker room and heard odd noises from the showers. He peeked in, and claims to have seen a young boy with his hands placed on the walls, and a retired coach, Jerry Sandusky, embracing him from behind. He reported this to his superiors, and, after a perfunctory investigation, they let the matter drop. Other young men now claim that Sandusky recruited them through his charity, The Second Mile, and seduced them or pressured them into sexual activity.
Sandusky maintains that he is...

PHOENIX (KPHO) - The Mormon church's role in reporting abuse is under scrutiny after two alleged sexual abuse victims say their church leaders failed to report the abuse to police. But he says everything changed when the adult woman he trusted, crossed the line. "The mother had initiated kissing - and over the next couple of months things escalated from there," said Brian. During the next three years Brian claims the married woman sexually...

FORT WORTH, Texas (BP) -- The headlines stunned the nation. The accusations of child sexual abuse by former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky have outraged an entire country. We were shocked by the alleged evil of a seemingly respectable man, sickened by the unthinkable abuse of his victims, and incensed by the moral cowardice of those who didn't do enough to stop it. Like Israel in the time of the Judges -- in the dregs of their moral bankruptcy -- we too have asked, "What is this wickedness that has occurred among you?" (Judges 20:12). As reprehensible as the...

Authorities are probing two new cases of child sex-abuse allegations against former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky, the Patriot-News reports. The two cases were reported less than 60 days ago, according to the newspaper, and the investigation by Children and Youth Services in Pennsylvania is still in its initial stages. The agency only joins an investigation when the allegations are made by victims still under 18. If the accusations are deemed credible, they would be the first known cases since Sandusky's arrest to come from current children. The other child sex-abuse cases against Sandusky involve alleged victims who are...

An Arizona man claims he was sexually abused 30 years ago by a Penn State professor — and the university refused to investigate his claims. Paul McLaughlin, now of Phoenix, says the abuse began when he was just 11 and lasted from 1977-81, with an education professor and two other predators targeting him. The victim told ABC News that he made audiotapes in 2001 of conversations where Prof. Jack Neisworth admitted performing oral sex on him. “Although I had clear evidence of abuse by this professor, the university refused to act,” charged McLaughlin. “Last week’s arrest of Penn State coach...

Child rape is an unforgivable offense and should be severely punished. It should be a capital crime. Unfortunately and unwisely, the U.S. Supreme Court in 2008 struck down a Louisiana law that provided for the death penalty in cases of child rape. Part of the court's rationale was that only a few states had such laws at the time, and they saw no national consensus even though there were several proposed laws in additional states and the movement was growing. I am calling on Congress to pass bipartisan legislation against this horrific crime without delay. The Federal Death Penalty Act...

The astonishing news in the past couple of weeks out of State College, Pennsylvania has left America reeling. The Penn State University sex-abuse scandal certainly seems unique. College-football defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky (shown at left) could have been investigated as early as 1995 for abusing young boys, but instead was allowed to commit his crimes for another 10 years. School athletic director Tim Curley and senior vice president for business and finance Gary Schultz face charges of lying to a grand jury investigating Sandusky, and university president Graham Spanier has been fired. And even more headline-grabbing, famed head football coach Joe Paterno has also been discharged. While not accused of any criminally actionable behavior, the gridiron legend is...
