Why the left support the BBC's neo-Stalinist agitprop that defends treason

The BBC production the Cambridge Spies boils down to a piece neo-Stalinist agitprop that reveals the moral and ideological bankruptcy of the BBC, an institution that was once even respected by it totalitarian enemies for its integrity.

Particularly telling, though not at all surprising, has been the praise heaped on it by the vast majority of reviewers. Tony Watson inadvertently summed up the political and historical illiteracy of his media colleagues when he asserted that this band of traitors were driven as much by "their fierce anti-fascist leanings, as they were by the romanticism of communism" (the Age television lift-out, 15-21/6/03)

Watson's ignorance and his indifference to the crimes of this squalid band of traitors draws attention to the extraordinary support that these Stalinists still derive from prominent leftists like Philip Adams.

In a particularly vicious attempt to show that Prime Minister Howard was a traitor (sic) Adams came to the defence of the infamous five (The Australian 4/7/98). According to this left-wing moralist — now that is an oxymoron — real traitors like Guy Burgess, Donald MacLean and Kim Philby provided "aid and succour to communism because that ism, warts and all, seemed vastly preferable to the other isms on offer: Naziism and Fascism . . . Ditto for the physicist who gave the Russians some of the secrets of the Manhattan Project.... Yet the term treason was used against the likes of Klaus Fuchs as if they were on par with Lord Haw-Haw."

(Vasili Mitrokhin revealed that the humane and idealistic Burgess requested that his KGB bosses murder Goronwy Rees, a former comrade from Cambridge. Rees' crime was to turn away from Stalin because of the Ribbentrop-Molotov pact [The Mitrokhin Archive]. The truth is that we shall never know how men and women died because of the Cambridge five's treason).

What Adams' odious double-talk amounted to is that those diplomatic officers and physicists who betrayed the Western democracies to the murderous Joe Stalin were not traitors at all but agents of "the forces of history." This is Adams at his sanctimonious worst.

MacLean, Burgess, Philby. Blunt, Fuchs did not betray Britain because of Hitler. This is just another left-wing lie to justify their treachery, though the likes of Tony Watson are apparently too dumb to see it. These British traitors became dedicated Marxist-Leninists while at Cambridge University. Their commitment to Stalinism was such they would have betrayed their country no matter what.

Let us not forget, however much the likes of Adams would like us to, that these traitors strove to turn Britain into an extension of Stalin's Gulag. If they were driven by a fear of Hitler why did they support the Ribbentrop-Molotov pact? Why did they betray their country to Stalin while he was sending war material to Germany to be used against Britain? Why did they continue to spy for this mass murderer even after Nazi Germany had been crushed? Well, Adams, (and let us not forget Mr Watson) why did they? If Philby was driven by his hatred of Naziism, as Adams and Watson claim, why did he betray Volkov to the NKGB several months after the war ended?

These men were guilty of the most appalling treason. They betrayed their country to a regime that without mercy and with premeditated ferocity put to death millions upon millions of its own citizens. It killed with starvation, the rope, the firing squad, mass torture and by working millions of them to death in the freezing wastelands of the Gulag, the Kolyma arctic death camps being the most notorious of those among the "archipelago".

This is the regime to which these traitors betrayed Britain. This is the regime to which these traitors dedicated themselves to handing over the British people. And this is the treason that Adams and the now wretched BBC defends.

Adams' appalling assertion that Lord Haw-Haw's treason was greater than Fuchs' demonstrates the left's contempt for the truth. Fuchs' family were known, because of their politics, as the Red Fuchs (Red Foxes) of Kiel. Fuchs got his politics from his family and not from any hatred of Hitler. Like so many others, Fuchs abused his position of trust to betray the democracies to Stalin. That he continued to do this until 1949 destroys Adams' flimsy defence that he was motivated by anti-Naziism.

In 1950 Fuchs was arrested in Britain for espionage and sentenced to 14 years. He secured an early release and then immediately went to work for the totalitarian East German regime. Why does Adams defend the actions of these left-wing traitors? Perhaps it is because he has always had a soft spot for totalitarian left-wing regimes, including Mao's Tse Tung's which killed about 50 million Chinese.

Having tried to whitewash genuine treason Adams then equated corporate tax avoidance (a perfectly legal action) with treason, accusing "screen-jockeys" of committing treason when they profited "from routing a currency", as if these people can actually determine currency values. (Oddly enough, he neglected to mention the wharfies treason on behalf of the Soviets.)

This ideological bile finally caused him to direct his pent-up hatred at Howard who, according to Adams, is a traitor because he did not crush Pauline Hanson. (Whether she should have been shot, hanged, tortured to death Adams does not say). Not only that, but Adams asserted that Hanson was promoted by the Liberal, while ignoring the fact that the Liberal Party expelled her. However, more considered opinion, and certainly more intelligent, has shifted much of the blame of Hanson's rise to where it really belongs and that is with the Labor Party and the vicious likes of Adams.

The Labor Party ruthlessly played the race card; the Labor Party funded and exploited ethnic divisions and politics; the same party callously pursued interest-group politics without any regard for the national interest. All of this while sanctimonious Labor supporters like Adams, scorned. libelled, ridiculed, slandered, intimidated and threatened those who dared criticise these destructive tactics.

In attacking Howard and other 'reactionaries' Adams would like us to forget that it was Gough Whitlam, the Labor Party's living shrine and self-proclaimed legend, who, as Prime Minister, called the Indo-Chinese people fleeing communism "f...ing Catholic Balts." And it was the likes of Adams who enthusiastically supported those murderous communist regimes that created this Asian Diaspora. Something he has never been man enough to apologise for.

Despite all that we now know about communist barbarism Adams the cowardly hypocrite, the master of the oily sentence, the weasel phrase and the self-congratulatory smirk, the man who still defends Stalin's agents has the gall to accuse others of treason.

What kind of man would call corporate tax avoidance treason while praising men who worked to send millions of their fellow citizens to their deaths. I for one believe such a man to be without honour, principle or integrity. Such a man is no friend of liberty and never will be.

(This view was confirmed by another of his left-wing diatribes [The Australian, 25/9/99] in which he once again expressed his opinion that resistance to communist aggression, even in the form of the Western alliance, had been wrong. To Adams' pathological left-wing mindset such resistance was immoral).

The praise heaped on Cambridge Spies is a depressing indicator of much of the media's moral bankruptcy and historical literacy. Moreover, that these critics can still seriously refer to these traitors as idealists in the finest sense of the word indicates that their views are rooted in the asinine belief that capitalist societies are immoral, exploitative, oppressive and illegitimate.

It therefore follows from this line of 'thought' that these societies have no moral standing and to betray them is to merely appeal to a higher morality, except if the traitor is a Nazi or a fascist. You see, our reviewers are so witless they are unable to see that their defence of the Cambridge Five would equally apply to supporters of Nazi Germany.

"the romanticism of communism"??? Sheesh! Maybe if you're on the dishing out end, not the receiving end, and are of a certain mindset.

I think he is going easy on them all. The left in America cna't buy into the book "Treason" because they too believe that good ideas are better than the actions that result.

I hope that today's college kids revolt against the authority in their colleges and become Republicans. That will teach the looney left.

Left wingers have murdered over 150 million people in less than 100 years as socialism and communism have imposed their dominion upon countries with devastating genocidal results. For example:

- Stalin – Russia (40 Million deaths – purges, death camps, wars, executions etc….)
- Mao Tse-tung – China (72 Million Deaths – death camps, executions, etc…)
- Pol Pot / Khmer Rouge – Cambodia (3.1 Million deaths – Pol Pot goes to Paris studies Marxism and returns to set up a socialist state by emptying the city of Phnom Penh and sending people into oblivion.)
- Gorbachev – Russia (1.3 Million murdered in Afghanistan in Russia’s quest for a warm water port)
- Castro – Cuba (hundreds of thousands of deaths and he put his AIDS patients into concentration camps)
- Kim Jong Il – North Korea (Millions of deaths in Stalinist death camps – MSNBC has documented this horror)
-Syrian President Bashar Assad (socialist Baath party) – Human rights violations by him and his father are legendary
-Saddam Hussein (Socialist Baath party) – former dictator of Iraq – the torture chambers and brutality are legendary as well but very typical for left wing despots (i.e., Stalin, Pol Pot, Kim Jong Il etc…)
- Eastern Communist Bloc countries during the cold war and the murderous left wing despots are still in power in China, North Korea, Cuba, etc…. even today.

Since Red October in 1917, the bloodshed by the left wingers has been truly remarkable and they have no shame?

Liberals get their panties in a bind over a perceived conservative bias at Fox News, however, what about the rest of the liberal mainstream media shilling for the extreme leftwing?? Just look at their genocidal track record above.

I discovered Philip Adams during the Bali Crises. He always put my teeth on edge but his rationalization of the traitors is beyond anything I could have imagined.
