The Navajo Code Talkers were common knowlege to evey American boy who had a Dad in WWII as far as I am concerned.
The only reason people might not know, is they are asking Gen-X'ers these questions, and THEY don't know because they were never taught it.
The two generations before them knew a lot.

''I just appreciate it, this medal,'' said Yazzie, 79, holding the blue velvet and white satin medal case in his hand. ''I don't believe I deserve it, but they all say I deserve it.'' Mr Yazzie, this is a well deserved and long overdue honor. Thank you for your service.

I agree with you 100%. It was common knowledge pretty much with the kids whose fathers had fought against the Japanese. In addition, I had a math teacher in the 7th grade who brought movies he had about fighting with the Japanese to school. He mentioned code talkers because he had been around them.

A great book by a Japanese! How's that for irony? Go buy a copy!
Has one pic with a group at Ira Haye's grave site!

Last winter there were some threads about the code talkers. I sent links to a friend who had never heard of them. She was fascinated by their story and every so often sends me links to different stories she's found.
These men deserve a lot more credit than they have been given.
