Yes, this seems to be a familiar pattern from Mr. Thompson of writing hate articles about the White House and then apologizing when he can't back it up.

People often don't read the retraction, either. Once bad information is released, a lot of people end up believing it because they never read the correction - so they walk around with a mistaken impression.

That bugs the hell out of me.

In reading through this thread and the links - I just thought the same thing.

Looks like a new ploy to create distrust of the Bush administration. Throw out lies, then come up with an elaborate reason for the error. Of course, the impression and the junk has been thrown into the media mill - any retractions are ignored when it can be used to hurt Bush. Yet, how can the author be at fault - he apologized for his erratic efforts. In fact, he receives accolades about his honesty.

I am not impressed with Mr. Thompson. Too quick to sprout off, too lax in verification, too willing to destroy the reputation of George Bush.

Another thing. Does anyone really believe that a person sets up a phony id and persona for 20 years to get in a propaganda lie against a GOP president to come along somewhere in the future?
