Something tells me Tenet's admission of responsibility is in return for his job security. He needs to go. So does 95% of the State Department.

This whole thing is a crock. We have just found a nuclear program buried in a rose garden. Do the libs care? No! They don't care that once the UN inspectors delcared Iraq weapons free and left the country Hussein would have dug up this program and produced himself a bomb. And who would he use it on? Tel Aviv or maybe a US or UK base in the region? Or maybe New York? No, all they care about is trying to make Bush out to be a liar. And these are the same people who said he didn't do enough to prevent 9-11. Now he's trying to prevent another one and they go on the attack. They'd rather have Saddam in power in Baghdad than Bush in power in Washington. I think the American people can see through all this, and I really think that Blair and Bush are just about ready to hand them their heads.

Don't forget the State Department "career" employees. I'm told constantly that the President can't just fire them.

BS...If I were the President I would clean house in many agencies of the "career types" if they didn't subscribe to my agenda, be it with executive orders or whatever means available.

Even if we had to "buy" the bastards out...they would be gone and MY types would be hired. Small price to pay, IMHO.

What department was it that Clinton was able to purge of lawyers when he took office...DOJ, if I remember correctly.

Anyone know how Bush's speeches get written? Someone involved in the speech writing set him up?

I remember watching the coverage of Hans Blix's report to the UN Security Council. ElBaradei was very quiet and short on words. Volunteered nothing.

BUT, as soon as the Niger document came up, ElBaradei was forthcoming, quick with a response, and volunteered information.

That is what Clinton did to the DOJ when he got in. Of course he had a lot to hide. I think Dubya has been doing a great job so far. He thinks Tenet is someone he can work with.

Interesting to hear someone say that around here. I don't like that he worked for Leahy previously, but I have read many reports here that Tenet was obsessed with Osama bin Laden and Al-Queda long before they were on anyone's radar screen. He kept insisting that they were planning a spectacular attack to anyone who would listen going back for years.

Anyone determined to plan in the long-term for an attack against the US will probably be successful, and there's little that government can do about it unless they get lucky. Even resorting to becoming a police state will bring limited success. Chechyans have been successful in attacks on Russians, we know.

I don't know what to make of Tenet, but I agree that he's taking it like a professional. Maybe he's even more valuable now. I cannot say with certainty.

If Tenet hasn't offered his resignation, Bush should demand it. It should be accepted. Time to clean the Augean stables both at State and the CIA.
