[history]
BATON ROUGE - Former Legislative Auditor Dan Kyle, a Republican candidate for Louisiana governor, alleges that a political leader he declined to identify asked for $25,000 to "take care of the votes in this area."
Kyle, kicking off a statewide tour Monday in Baton Rouge, said the money could be legally paid because it was for "voter canvassing" permitted under Louisiana campaign law. But once paid, Kyle said the money could be spent to buy votes.

I know for a fact that buying votes occurs in Louisiana on the part of both political parties. I used to know the sheriff of one of the southwestern parishes. Back in the '80s, the Republican gubernatorial candidate sent him $5,000.00 to pass out for votes. The next day, the Democratic gubernatorial candidate sent him $10,000.00 to buy votes. I'm pretty sure none of the money was passed out, though. Louisiana politics is certainly a world unto itself!

Kyle is the 65-year-old former LA state auditor, appointed by the legislature. He stepped down earlier this year to run for governor. The legislature, meanwhile, is in the process of gutting the office. Kyle exposed wasteful spending and irritated state officials in the process. I don't know if Kyle is from Lake Charles or not. But leading Democrat gubernatorial candidate Richard Ieyoub is from Lake Charles.
