I took a spill on my waverunner last summer at around 68 mph, and I honestly thought it was going to tear me apart. I limped around for a week, and had a sore shoulder until Halloween. I pay much closer attention now.

Dang, I knew as soon as I posted that some smarty was going to say something. Actually, it was the lack of restrooms that caused me to run so fast. ;-)

Geez, I'm glad I wasn't between you and the potty.

You ought to try a face plant after getting about 10' of air on a wakeboard. I had the pleasure of experiencing that 'smackdown' feeling earlier in the summer!

P.S. Owning a boat is a lot like standing in an ice cold shower while tearing up 50 dollar bills. According to several former boat owners I know, the two happiest days in the life of a boat owner: The day you buy your boat, and the day you sell your boat.

"I can use my unit walking around the neighborhood and it shows me my speed..."...does it take in to consideration the wind direction and velocity? ;-)

No, just my relative global position speed. But I can tell when I get a fart boost.
To: Sam Cree
Though my boat generally stays below 100MPH (cruise is at around 80), it's not uncommon to very common for offshore racing (cigarette) boats to be at 100+. Be aware that except in specially marked areas there is NO SPEED LIMIT on the water.

Huh?, the boat goes the same speed "over the water" whether it is going upstream or downstream. Speed relative to the shore changes. A GPS gives speed relative to shore. That was 116mph. Since the water was moving in the same direction as the boat, the boat was going 100mph relativc eto the water.

The two best days in a boatowners life.
The day he buys it and the day he sells it.

GPS gives speed over the ground only.

Boat: def. 1. Vehicle for traveling over water. 2. Hole in the water one throws money into.

GPS gives speed over the ground only. Yes, but the poster referenced the speed "over the water". I reacted to that.

Owning a boat is a lot like standing in an ice cold shower while tearing up 50 dollar bills. Then I guess owning a plane is like standing in the wind and tossing c-notes. Like the old saying goes, the only way to become a millionaire in aviation is to start with two million.
BTW I never knew that boats that fast were widely available.

Nope, I don't know who made it. The only label on the entire boat was in front of the passenger seat - it read - faster you fool. It had about half the profile of the boat pictured in your link. The valve covers, the high rise Eldebrock, Holley, and chrome headers all showed above the side of the boat. I've got a picture of it I'll scan at home tonight and try to post it. It was one bad boat.

Mine was a 20 foot Sylvan with a 5.7 liter Mercury (basically GM) V8.
Some of those 250 horsepower outboard bass boats are capable of in excess of 70 mph over water.
That's waaaay too fast for something with no brakes IMO.
