[history]
Penthouse Magazine, long a staple of adolescent fantasies and a favorite topic of discussion for Howard Stern, could soon be disappearing from the publishing world. What's more, by next week Penthouse founder Bob Guccione could lose his fabled Penthouse Mansion, a century-old residence that is one of the largest private homes in Manhattan.

Preventing prostate cancer for 20 years

These days, the extreme close-ups of Penthouse's pictorials seem more appropriate for a medical manual, and the live-action sex scenes are as graphic as anything available. Perhaps they could find something new to capture the public's ever-changing fantasies: necrophilia, perhaps, or maybe cannibalism.

It is more like porn is availble via the internet and I doubt they are getting less graphic.

This stuff could push a latent homosexual right out of the closet in a cocktail dress.

Looks like Penthouse is going the way of Omni, Guccioni's other publication.

Penthouse always had a rough market to go for, trying to lodge halfway between the glamor porn of Playboy and the hardcore smut of everything else never let Penthouse define itself on its own terms. Then they went through a few years where most of their models were former Playmates that didn't manage to vault to acting and instead were heading to the downward spiral of a porn career and the mag was clearly heading to trouble (who wants a mag where you could have seen the same model 3 years ago in a different mag before the drugs started taking their toll?).

It was Anna Kournikova's lawsuit that finally did them in. They must have had some other bad business practices as well, because anyone who can't turn a profit off a monthly circulation of 500,000 is obviously doing something wrong. But I think the AK suit tipped them over the edge.

The End of the Line for Penthouse?
One can only hope that it's demise will come soon. I suppose all the sickos have migrated to net porn.

These days, the extreme close-ups of Penthouse's pictorials seem more appropriate for a medical manual,This reminds me of an episode of Seinfeld in which Jerry had a girlfried who liked to walk around his apartment in the nude. One day she was helping him fix the chain on his bicycle and she was squatting down to do so. Jerry didn't find the sight of her doing that very appealing. Later, when Jerry was talking to one of his buddies about it, he said that "there's good nudity and there's bad nudity, and that was bad nudity!"

Hmm. I saw the crippled fella from Hustler on the TV a few months ago. He's not doing too well either. Competing with the internet is not easy for yesterday's porn-kings.Oh well, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.
