At a ceremony to be held at the White House on July 23, 2003, President Bush will award the Nation's highest civil honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom to NRA former President Charlton Heston (and 10 other individuals).

Too bad that wasn't an Ugly Black Gun, or something on the order of an M-1A/M-14 that "Moses" was holding up. Perhaps he may have on another occasion?

To answer my own question, sort of: Probably for the same reason they didn't mention Heston's 2nd amendment advocacy. Wouldn't want to excite the liberals too much. It won't work of course, as pointed out earlier, they'll be all in a froth anyway.
