I am not sure what to think about this case. With the facts stated previously (ad nauseum) it sounds like it was consentual by both parties to a point. The girl is young enough to think that this is a game with no backlash and Mr. Bryant is certainly old enough to know better than to cheat and lie, athlete or not. If she is lying, what bothers me the most, is that many women who are genuine victims of rape will also pay for this. You can only cry wolf so many times before people quit listening. If he is guilty I hope that he gets an appropriate sentence. If she is lying I hope she gets the same.

I don't think I have ever seen this much "dirt" reported on an unknown accuser this quickly.

Small town. I would also imagine that there are hundreds of investigators and reporters scouring NBA towns looking for a pattern of Kobe abusing women. It it's there, you'll hear about it. Media outlets will fall over themselves to be the first to break the story of another Kobe incident. All of Dr. Buss' money can't stop that.

If rape were decriminalized

We'd be living in Saddam's Iraq.

How much were these tabloid-style witnesses paid? Were they under oath?
This "separate places and times" detail sounds like a nice touch of credibility considering all of them are as likely to be as compromised in the credibility department as they claim she is....
The reporter and "news" outlets who employed such a silly tactic to legitimize teenage party gossip are no more credible than the gossipers....

NBC doesn't pay people for interviews. Of course they weren't under oath.

There sure do seem to be lots of folks who have it in for little miss cheerleader.

Or, maybe they just know her very well, and she's as loopy as a fruitcake.

This case looks less and less likely to even go to trial.

I find it very distasteful to attack the girl this way. It makes me wonder if Kobe is guilty. He lied saying nothing happened until DNA evidence forced the truth from him. Where I grew up (went to high school) in the early 70's, there were six (not sure of the number)young high school athletes who victimized a retarded girl sexually. The girl was my sister's best friends sister so I know it was true. This never made the paper. The boys were sent away to school (rich kids). I heard that these boys thought what they did was a great joke and the girl was "lucky" to have them pay her attention. Some athletes think they can have anything they want. I don't know if Kobe forced the girl or not. I am keeping an open mind.

The Lakers will protect their own insofar as that they support their player in the presumption of innocent until proven guilty. The Lakers aren't going to spend one red cent in Kobe's defense, except indirectly since a portion of the millions that Kobe has earned while working for the Lakers is undoubtably going towards his defense in this case. Now it's a vast Laker's conspiracy to slander the this girl... As it was previously stated on this thread... the "character assasinations" or "probably truth" as I like to refer to these reports... are coming from her own home town and her friends and people who proport know her.

Thanks. I'll wait to see if this little piece of juicy news is used by the defense at the trial. I'll know then whether it's true or not.

I heard on Fox that Kobe asked the girl to bring something to his room in her capacity as an employee-not unusual for resort employees to do this after hours. We have time shares and the resorts bend over backwards to accomodate us. Who knows?

NBC doesn't pay for interviews? What makes you so sure? Your faith that assures you the NY Times doesn't make up stories?

One hand or two?

According to Newsweek, she is a big basketball groupie.

She's probably a expert with the hand gestures.

Good idea. Let's get rid of all laws. We can start carrying guns. Form gangs. Kill or be killed. We don't need no stinking badges.

Kobe is toast. If he is well hung. And, if the girl either was relatively inexperienced or not well lubricated then he could have caused alot of tearing whether consentual or not.

How about this for a scenario: She goes up to Kobe's room to have sex. Kobe is too big for her and is hurting her. She tells him to stop. He doesn't. She goes home. Her mom catchs her crying and forces her to confess. She calls it rape. The father forces her to report it to the police.

NBC doesn't pay people for interviews.

but National Enquirer does Teen rejects checkbook journalism

McKinney said she regrets the way the information came out. She said she was tricked by reporters Heather Louring and Marcia C. Smith of the Orange County Register into answering questions for their story. She was sick, she said, and was awakened by a ringing telephone; when she picked it up, it was Louring on the line. "They told me they'd already talked to a bunch of kids and that they had all the information, and that they only wanted to nail down a few facts," said McKinney. "I wasn't even awake yet." McKinney said they also told her they'd call her Saturday night if the story was running in the Register's Sunday edition. No call came, she said. McKinney also said a quote in the Register's story was taken out of context. McKinney is quoted as saying: "I think the things that happened in the past had a lot to do with what happened that night." The Register linked the quote to the night of the alleged assault by Bryant. McKinney said she was talking about the night the alleged victim took the pills.

Even though the quote was referring to a different event, the journalists lied because they have an agenda.

This is a textbook case of character assassination. I don't think I have ever seen this much "dirt" reported on an unknown accuser this quickly. I have a feeling that when this is all said and done, the accuser may be suing a few media outlets.

Oh, please. The media is putting her friends on television to talk about her.

She could sue her friends, I guess.

If she's lying, she deserves to have her character smeared, and worse than what we've seen so far.

***The second one said she didn't want to discuss her personal matters with an audience of thousands but that her husband was "hung like a horse."***

LOL! It's so nice to know that we still have sweet, delicate little ladies who don't "discuss personal matters" before an audience of thousands.

Neal Boortz proposed yesterday, because of the high percentage of rape allegations that are false that a law should be passed that if you accuse someone of rape falsely, you go to jail for the amount of time the wrongly accused would have served if convicted.

The problem with this is this: a "not guilty" verdict does not prove that the allegations are false. "Not guilty" does not mean that a rape definitively did not happen; it simply means that the evidence that it did occur does not rise to the standard "beyond a reasonable doubt." The option of the accusee bringing a case for defamation is already available. To put your plan into action, the accuser would have to be tried separately and convicted of making a false claim, beyond a reasonable doubt. Then the sentences for making a false claim would have to be aligned with the sentences for rape.

Oh really, I suppose you believe that only innocent people are acquitted by juries? How has this girl gained anything? She could have blackmailed Kobe threatened to tell his wife or maybe sold her story to the star. She would have made plenty of money and would not be smeared by athlete loving groupies.
