Just hire Americans
The Arizona Republic ^ | July 23, 2003 | Tim Johnson (letter to the editor)

We will never stop the flow of illegal aliens until it becomes too costly for the people who hire them.

Our manufacturing businesses moved factories overseas for the cheap labor, and now the service industry (which can't move overseas) has learned that it can increase profits by hiring uneducated, poor Mexicans. The big lie is that the illegal aliens are doing jobs Americans won't do. The truth is that Americans can't do the jobs for the pay Mexicans will work for.

Yet because you think yourself immune from the pressures overseas outsourcing and illegal immigrants

Have I ever said this? Why would this matter?

In other words you are for artificially manipulating the marketplace to give benefits to yourself.

Nope. Just allowing for immigration to keep the entire country growing (since without it we would be in serious decline, population wise).

I am certain that will keep you busy for a while.

Job security ... for now.

Maybe .... just maybe the companies are beginning to learn ... you get what you pay for. Oh and for all those free traitor clowns out there ... the reason engineers get paid what they do ... is that we put the time and effort in to learn and train to do the job ... if you think we are over paid ... you come over and do the job.

Dontchaknow, we are soooo rich that we don't need jobs? American and Americans can do without a paycheck. Hell, every American should invite 10 foreigners to come live with them we are doing so well. Come to think of it, we should just move the Hell out of this greedy country and invite 20 foreigners to move in.

The cheapest price part of your post says otherwise. In posts on other threads you have argued against tariffs because you can get stuff cheaper without them here you are arguing for immigration to get teh cheapest price. That is asking for Federal subsidy for you so you do not have to work harder to get the same things.

I would never, ever, ever sit around and demand that the federal government protect my salary with other Americans' money.

What would you do if you had kids to feed and could not get a job? Would you accept food stamps and other government help? Or would you sacrifice your children for the free market idea?

For the life of me I can never figure out why folks even bother replying to Texas_Dawg and his/her ilk. It's pretty obvious they are Pro-Outsourcing, and even though they don't come right out and admit it, Pro-Illegal immigrant. Sounds just like a Lib in RINO clothing, only they like to use "Socialist" instead of "Racist". Americans watch out for each other, not how much money they can make and who they can screw in the process of making that extra buck.

Unless, of course, you're a lawyer or a free traitor or other lower form of life

I agree. Debating with those that resort to just assorted name calling means the debate is over.

Actually one could make an excellent argument that Texas dawg is a hard core Marxist whose only goal was the destruction of his fellow Americans. He is for destroying the standard of living of most of those in the USA. he is for having the pRC increase its development.

I am an engineer. I realize the threat than H1B's present to engineers. They depress my wage and someday may take my job. However, projects get shipped overseas all the time. I would rather import engineers than export jobs. H1B's are the kind of folks I want to immigrate: motivated, educated, and bright.

H1B's are NOT immigrants. Until they become AMERICAN citizens with a vested interest in our country they are NOT welcome here to take AMERICAN jobs.

The government MUST be made to end the substities to companies that outsource off shore and to adjust the tariffs on goods shipped to this country as our founding fathers intended.

In the not so distant future, I believe we'll see this Greed and Avarice Kennel Club membership, in their nefarious attempts to bilk the economy, running around in so many circles that they'll find themselves chewing on their own tails.

Oh and one other thing ... If you love H1B's so much ... then give one your friggin job ... don't expect the rest of us to give up ours so that some low life free traitor can make a easy buck.

The law is silly because it places the burden of i-9s on legitimate employers but, because it is not enforced, does nothing against those who illegally hire wetbacks.

During my lean college years, I worked in two industries - full-service car washes and fine dining - that are notorious for hiring illegals.

I had to fill out I9s each year, even though I was blonde and without a trace of an accent.

The illegals had a pool of IDs - two female, five male - that they'd take whenever one of them needed ID. It was blatant.

The Chile/Singapore free trade agreements will allow "American" corporations to move an unlimited number of "employees" from those countries to ours.

Bush giving corporations control over immigration policy

He can have it... as soon as he can out-compete me. How are tarrifs going to stem the flow of engineering jobs? If you make the barriers high enough, companies in America wont be able to compete with those in Canada or Germany. Multinationals just laugh. Capital doesn't migrate; it teleports. Throw up enough barriers and Silicon Valley is going to look like Flint, Michigan. I think I just saw Michael Moore walking up Sand Hill road.

We don't really have a choice, but as long as they are importing workers we can still compete. If they export the jobs, we're Simply Out of Luck.
