I didn't notice it but you're right. He was awarded the Medal of Freedom, not Medal of Honor.

Mandela, a communist, who prescided over the economic dismanteling of South Africa. In his lifetime, Mandela was coddled by the left/socialist elements throughout the World and held up as a reformer. Those who lived in Mandela's lifetime lived in a society that was fraught with terror from people like spouse and her minions, by redistribution of the wealth, and a low rate of reinvestment - the lack of reinvestment in the capitalist means of production was the one thing so often overlooked by the 20th and 21st Century Socialists who advocated Workers Rights.

Mandela was the leader of the ANC which was hard-core Communist/terrorist group. Honoring him is like honoring Yasser Arafat. But, of course, the judgement of this President should never be questioned. I wonder how many more black people will vote for him in 2004.

I was hoping that Zulu king Buthelezi was going to at least have more influence, if not the top spot. In the mid 1980's he supposedly drafted a proposed constitution based on a limited federal government, more states rights (old, old Washington Times article). Buthelezi did not like Mandela, not just due to tribal rivalries (Mandela is a Xhosa), but also due to Mandela being a blatant Marxist.

Maybe we sided with the wrong folks on this one....look at Rhodesia...look at South Africa. Lot's of social "progress" going on in both those places.
