Arkansas National Guard to Deploy to Iraq

The Army alerted an Arkansas National Guard unit yesterday that it will probably be deployed to Iraq by April to help fight the continuing war in that country.

The 39th Infantry Brigade from Little Rock would leave between February and April, according the Department of Defense. The deployment would last a year.

The 30th Infantry Brigade based in North Carolina would also be deployed under the same order.

A battalion from the 41st Infantry Brigade would join the 39th Infantry Brigade.

The 39th is an enhanced light infantry brigade that is trained to act as a strategic reserve in the event of two nearly simultaneous major theater wars, according to the unit's web site.

Ark, I notice you're linking to Globalsecurity.

I'd like to know about others' take on this site. We in Kentucky use it, but we have to filter thru the agenda ads to get to the good stuff.

I grabbed the page straight off a Google search and didn't check out the other parts of the site. Will go back and check it out.

Yep, stuff like this happens (and was anticipated) when a previous president reduced the Military force.

Voting for another Democrat will make things even worse. But just trying to convince the Democratic public is a hard sell. They're too brainwashed already.

I read 'Dereliction of Duty'. Eye opener. Good book. Plenty of References.

Yep, if Dean is elected we might as well trade the Dutch for their army. Straight up trade. Maybe they will throw in a bag of pot to sweeten the deal.

This brigade has never deployed together. They have always deployed them in dribs and drabs.

The 39th is part of the 7th Infantry Division.

Ark, they were doing the same thing to us in KY, until they changed policy. Now units deploy set-piece.

The Iraqis better be careful. Back in the war with Mexico a large group of men, women and children were murdered by what the reports called, "Undiciplined troops from Arkansaw."

They are a little more disciplined these days, though the Arkinsaw Toothpick is still their unit insignia. The Arkansas troops have performed well when called on, particularly during the Civil War. But I would still advise the army to keep the moonshine away from them :-)
