New Play Toy!!! (Firearm)

Today I strolled into a local gunshop and much to my amazement I found a Steyr M40 (NIB) for $399.00. I’d always been interested in the Steyr ever since it came out specifically the smaller “s” series and more so the S357.

Well I just could not pass up such a good deal, I’ve seen this gun in shops down south, (GA, TN, SC) for as much as $519.00, so when I saw the $399.00 I had to have it.

Bought a pistol blanket for her, four boxes of Speer plinking ammo and some .40 cal cleaning supplies (bore brush, pads etc…) as this is my first 40.

Shot it already and WOW!!!

Accurate, once you get use to the “trapezoid” sites, trigger is short, very short and crisp, nice break around 5 pounds.

It is a very tight gun, first time I tried to apply the manual safety I couldn’t, took three or four tries now it moves just as the manual says it should, with two fingers.

I will most likely buy a tac-lite for this and a .357 barrel, and (pray) once the AWB goes away I’ll get me a few “normal capacity” mags for it (12 rounds) and then she’ll make a rather nice beside the bed gun.

It’s so nice to be able to buy a gun in a gun friendly state!

It was a wake-up call but I've shot an m14-E2 and from what I can remember the .284 was not as exciting, it's been long gone though :O(

take care,

Jim

KMW Long Range Solutions Pod-Loc

Tactical Intervention Specialists Rifle Sling
Mfg. Part #: Quick Cuff MODEL ONE
Price: $70.00

All told, that's under $2300, if you put it together yourself, which isn't that hard to do. Hell, now that it's out, I'd get a Premier Reticle's Gen 2 Mil-dot (Part #: 51182G) version of that Leupold scope instead, for $803. It's a better reticle, and it's in the first focal plane.

You can still add a Mil-Dot Master for $29.95, a Starlight Case (Part #: SC-061352) for $230, a Bore Tech Bore Stix (Part #: BSTX_7344_00) for $35.55, and a Bore Tech Patch Guide (Part #: BTPG_2100_00) for $44.95 for an additional $340, and still be more than $2000 under your $5000 price tag, which you can put towards plenty of Black Hills 175 Gr. Match HP ammunition and steel targets.

You could buy a new stainless steel match barrel for $270.00, have the action trued for $50.00, and have your new barrel chambered and installed for $270.00 if you want the rifle's accuracy to go from minute-of-angle to half minute-of-angle.

If you wanted to - and I haven't yet - you could replace the aluminum trigger guard with a Badger Ordnance steel trigger guard (Part #: 306-02) for another $315.00.

All that, and it's still $1000 less than your $5000 target price.
