Muslim Fights MoD Charge
Sky News ^ | July 31, 2003

A Muslim reservist airman is bringing a test case against the Ministry of Defence, after he was disciplined for refusing to take part in the Iraq war.

He is appealing on the grounds that his faith forbids him from fighting other muslims.

Moshin Khan from RAF Suffolk was called up earlier this year but failed to turn up. He was charged with going absent without leave.

His lawyers will argue that the European convention on human rights gives everyone the right to freedom of religious belief - including military personnel.

He is not the only person to have refused to serve in Iraq. Two other British servicemen, a private and an air technician from 16 Air Assault Brigade, were sent home from the Gulf after refusing to fight.

But they refused to fight for moral reasons and not religious ones.

In previous conflicts, conscientious objectors in the armed services have been jailed for refusing to fight.

Khan was arrested by Suffolk police after going absent without leave in February.

He had reported for training but then decided he could not fight and went into hiding. Police handed him over to RAF investigators.

Sounds suspiciously similar to talk about the mental inferiority of the 'Noble Savages'...

From the 7th until the 11th centuries, there was lively theological debate in Islam and different schools of thought arose. Beginning in the 11th century, though, it was held amongst Sunni scholars that "the gates of ijithaad [sp.?] are closed." This meant that no new interpretations of Sunni Islam were permitted. So, yes, Sunni Islam, which the majority of Muslims at least nominally adhere to, is still stuck in the early middle ages.

Interestingly enough, the Shiites, now dominant in Iran (and in the future possibly dominant in Iraq), never closed the gates of ijithaad.

Don't blame Islam for the horrific actions of humans.

All the evil, misogyny, oppression, slavery, throat-slitting, terror and murder you could possibly want is right there in the Koran, shariah and hadith. Islam is a satanic, bloodthirsty death cult. Always has been. Always will be. Everywhere it goes on this earth, terror, murder, oppression and seventh-century follow close on its diabolical heels.

I don't think men will ever figure out what it is that gets American women so riled when it comes to islam. They have no idea.

You are me both. It annoys me when I see a group of them walking down the street, the men wearing shorts and tee-shirts and women wearing long skirts, long sleeves and a kerchief, even on a hot summer day.

To be fair, the majority of Muslims in the US don't seem to be religious and may be called "moderate" but that's because they are ignorant and/or don't care. Some Muslims, especially Iranians, fled to the West because they want to live normal lives. This doesn't mean that they are necessarily pro-American; a person may be a bad Muslim (or bad Christian or Jew or whatever) and still side with his co-religionists, even if he doesn't practice the religion. It's still a part of his identity. That's one thing that I am concerned about.

In a post-Islamic world....my days would be numbered.

In a post-Islamic world, I would take to the hills, along with my gun collection.

There are a small clique of trojan horses here who have no concept of responsibility or cause and effect, who cannot distinguish between terrorist zealots and the many "moderate Muslims" who quietly smile in agreement while funding the terrorists. They scream for the victims of Islam to embrace this vile death cult, and as soon as someone sees the truth and tells it like t is, the traitorous trojan horses jump up and dribble out their cowardly appeasement, hoping in vain that their throat will be slit last. And then they wonder why none accept their vile, cowardly treason.

We will not ignore ignore you, Diddle E. Squat, and we know that you are (thank God!) not representative of any kind of true American at all, just a noisy treasonous yapper.

You should be ashamed of your disgusting ignorant bigotry. ikhlas247 politely explained the reasoning behind what was done at the pool, and then you go off on a string of mocking insults and cheap shots at her, failing to distinguish between a moderate Muslim and an extremist.

Indeed. Our enemies -- violent Muslim extremists -- claim that there is no such distinction; that their version of Islam is the only legitimate version. Amazingly many freepers agree with them. The bigots here are literally propagating key elements of the enemy's propaganda.

I don't have the slightest problem with strong criticism of religion in general or of specific religions. Or with strong responses by apologists. It's all part of the market place of ideas. But it strikes me as simply stupid -- leaving the issues of hate and bigotry aside for the moment -- to ignore the enormous capacity of all human religions for evolution (although acolytes understandably tend to minimize this), and to ignore the diversity that exists within any major religion.

Unlike the guy who chose a nick to match his gonads, I will fight to the death before I see good American women like you forced into burkahs. Count on it.

But the New Testament does not have preachings that advocate this. The Koran has some pacific verses but has many murderous verses that advocate bloody war and terrorism. Even being so specific as to advocate beheadings to more easily frighten (terrorize) the opposition into surrender.

Hi, Dennis. Right. A "moderate" Muslims might argue that those bloody-minded passages were applicable only to a particular time and a particular place (like the more belligerent sections of the OT) but the historical understanding is that they are applicable to all times and all places. The same is true of "jihad" -- it originally meant holy war and only holy war; only beginning around the 15th century did some expand the interpretation to include peaceful means of promoting Islam.

the enormous capacity of all human religions for evolution

Religions, perhaps, but not a seventh-century misogynistic death-cult that is defined by its founding document, a bloodthirsty tome of murder, oppression, slavery misogyny and evil. The Koran calls for the death of all who might try to reform Islam.

In case you missed that: The Koran calls for the death of all who might try to reform Islam.

The Koran calls for the death of all who might try to reform Islam.

The Koran calls for the death of all who might try to reform Islam.

Islam has always been a source of terror, death, slavery, oppression, murder and misogyny. It will always be a deadly threat. Don't fall for the lies of its supporters.

THE KORAN SAYS IT IS A VIRTUE TO LIE TO THE INFIDEL IN ORDER TO ADVANCE THE CAUSE OF ISLAM!!!

The "MODERATES" remind me of the smiling Cheshire cat.

They will smile at you in pretend friendliness, then come up behind you and slit you throat as you are thinking they aren't the radical islamofacist I've been hearing about.

Moderate Muslims......you're kidding, right?

So, Allawi, who fought against Saddam at the risk not only of his own life, but those of every member of his family; who watched his own wife murdered in a London hotel, who bears the scars on his body from that attack, and who still fought on; who leads a government representing all ethnicities in Iraq, whose words (and actions) echo almost exactly those of George W. Bush; who has pledged to destroy terrorists...

Is he a fake moderate Muslim? Is he winking at the extremists and secretly craving their approval.

How about Khalid Duran, who works with Daniel Pipes, who helped Steven Emerson research American Jihad? Is he a fake moderate?

I could go on for pages, but what's the use. What obvious nonsense your proud and blatant bigotry is. How facile and stupid (let alone hateful).

Oh my goodness, Broadsword, I am honored. My knight in shining armor -- "Broadsword" is a very appropriate nom de plume. Thank you!

On another note, tomorrow afternoon is my time to go to the range with my favorite rifle! It helps to have a scope!

None survive when freedom fails,
Good men rot in filthy jails,
While those who cried, "Appease! Appease!"
Are hanged by those they tried to please.

I hope these cowardly trojan horses and terror-defenders will find their ropes comfortable.

Keep your powder dry and keep up the good work, my friend. I am right there with you. All good Americans are.

If they are sincere, they are bad Muslims. They ignore much of their religion. So is the fair-minded and courageous expatriate Iranian journalist, Amir Taheri.

P.S. You go ahead and sympathize with them all you want. You go ahead and believe in the myth of the GOOD MUSLIM.

You call me whatever makes you feel better about yourself.

I will continue to say that ALL MUSLIMS ...ALL MUSLIMS want the Western societies vanquished.

As long as I live I will never accept the ideal of a Muslim world.
