"Me too. I hope that they will let me stay at Walmart until it's over."

Nah, go to the ice. When the animals there drop dead of starvation, they'll be instantly frozen...easy pickings. Just bring salt and a Bic lighter.

From what I've seen, there is a group that lives in that area that is genetically Asian but looks very African (very dark skin, tightly curled hair, etc.) that may have survived the event or moved in shortly afterwards. I do know that there was a major bottleneck but, like I said, there is a lot of genetic diversity within Africa which, logically, near the South end, would not have gotten hit as badly (prevailing winds, etc.) as much of the rest of the globe. Wish I had a reference for that group of people handy. I think I saw it in Discover.

Explosive events are, of course, not new in Yellowstone. Regional volcanoes once sent forth material across much of what is now the U.S.

I love the understatement here.

Nope, Bic lighters are French products. Starvation or not, I'm not buying french. I'll take my Zippo, thank you very much. Maybe a little steak sauce too.

You're thinking of the San Bushmen. They're the oldest (genetically) people in Africa. They are of the Khonesian(sp) race and exhibit 'Mongoloid Spots' in their youth. They are also physically different than all other humans, the females have an 'apron' over their genetical area and the males have pernament semi-erect penis's.

The San Bushmen Of Southern Africa Khoisan.

Their oral history indicates that they may have once lived in the Mediterranian area and linguists claim their language (click) is the oldest in the world.

The star of the movie The Gods Must Be Crazy was a San Bushman. Very funny movie.

I had never seen it until my wife told me about it. It's hilarious!

She was born in South Africa and it annoys her that in the US version, they have dubbed over the rather strong accents of some of the actors.

I think it's written in Yellowstone's admission policy that if a cataclysmic event should occur, everyone gets their nickel back.

Why a nuclear power plant? Are coal, oil and gas, not to mention hydroelectric and wood, going to be unavailable?

I've even read where some anthropologist speculate that the San Bushmen may be the leprechauns of Irish legend/myth.
They are very shy and retreating (they never fight), have pointed ears, wear shoes (when they wear shoes) that turn up at the toes and like to dance around fires all night long. (..and some other similar things that I've forgotten). I've read 2-3 books on these Bushmen.

The San also have eye folds like Asians, leading some to think that that's also a very ancient trait that was present in the earliest humans.

I found an article here that talks about genetic bottlenecks and differentiates populations inside and outside of Africa. This article also talks about the original Asian migration having more African features and isolated pockets that still exhibit them. This article (and the site it is from) seems to talk quite a bit about these people who are still in India and SE Asia.

I stumbled upon this paper, which you might find interesting, while doing some searches. I've skimmed it and don't know if I buy into all of it's conclusions but it makes the interesting claim that Neanderthal and Homo Sapiens Sapiens hybridization has some links to Aspergers, Autism, and some other things. Might be worth a look and I'm curious what you think about it.

Sometimes, a myth is just a myth. I think scientists sometimes stretch way to far trying to explain every mythological story with some natural event. Sometimes, people just make stuff up. Ever hear of the Texas Sharpshooter effect in statistics? The "Texas Sharpshooter" is a guy who fires his rifle fifty times into the side of a barn and then draws a circle around the spot where most of the bullets hit. I'd need to see some hard physical evidence before buying a connection that distant.

I've read 2-3 books on these Bushmen.

What a lot of books don't tell you is that they also have had a historically high murder rate despite being "The Peaceful People". Take a look at Lawrence Keeley's War Before Civilization if you haven't already. He does a good job of turning a lot of (often liberal) "conventional wisdom" upside-down. His work is mentioned by Stephen A. Leblanc in his book Prehistoric Warfare in the American Southwest because Keeley has been at the forefront of the re-evaluation of the "conventional wisdom" that primate hunter gathers were peaceful and Western civilization has turned us all into murderous warmongers.

This is causing me strange mental images. Care to elaborate a bit?
