RUMSFELD'S GAY ADVISER

Gay activist Stephen Herbits, who worked temporarily at the Pentagon on two occasions in 2001 and 2002, has settled in as a special adviser to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

Herbits now has his name on the door and has been assigned a Pentagon e-mail address. A longtime friend and ally of Rumsfeld, he is clearing all major personnel choices in the Defense Department.

In 2000, former Seagrams executive Herbits contributed $17,000 to Democratic causes, including $13,000 to the Democratic National Committee and $1,000 to the Gore-Lieberman Recount Fund. Federal records show no 2000 political contributions by Herbits to Republicans. Generally, even contributors to other Republican candidates in 2000 have had trouble getting named to the Bush administration.

If Rumsfeld named you to advise him, I'd applaud it.

Not because I trust you, but because I trust Rumsfeld.

Or pragmatic. That is, putting what he thinks is the best candidate into a job rather than political patronage.

When did the FR become all-gay all the time? Started to couint today's anti-gay threads and got tired after 15.

Not because I trust you, but because I trust Rumsfeld.

I used to think that, but he's done a few too many idiotic things

Reminds me a lot of McNamara & his so called "whiz kids" that really screwed up our military

I question Rumsfeld trusting the judgement of someone who wanted Gore to be POTUS.

Think about it... anyone who thinks Gore would make a good POTUS must have gray matter oozing out of their head. ^_^*

Besides the guy obviously never served in the military. Don't you think someone should know something about the inside of the military before being an "advisor" in the DOD???

The anti-gay obsessive compulsives make up in intensity what they lack in numbers. Most Freepers are a little more interested in winning the war than in worrying about the sex life of Pentagon staff.

I don't think Rumsfeld, and I know Cheney, never served in the military. Want them to go too?

Rumsfeld was a Navy flyboy.

Rumsfeld was born on July 9, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois. He received a B.A. in Politics from Princeton University in 1954. He served in the U.S. Navy as a naval aviator from 1954-1957.

As far as Cheney is concerned or anyone else for that matter. Yes. Having been in the Army myself during Clinton's Reign of Terror, I think anyone who is in the Chain of Command should have served in some capacity.

I questioned Clinton's motives in how he mistreated the Armed Forces and I question slimey liberals involvement in anything to do with it.

What advise could this guy possibly offer? What does he know about the practicalities of running the military?

When did the FR become all-gay all the time?

It's really getting tiresome. And not all of them are anti-gay. People just post this stuff because they think it's sensational. Or maybe there's a member of the Gay Mafia posting it, just to keep it in the mix. I think there ought to be a special section on FR where homosexual news is posted. And while we're at it, the other tabloid stuff could be posted there too. Maybe Free Republic would regain some of its former dignity that way.

The reason for the abundance of gay related threads is that there has been alot of gay related news recently. Personally, I thing that the efforts of the extreme left and gay lobby to radically alter and redefine the institution of marriage should get even more attention. The more attention gay related issues get, the less chance of the left forcing something on an unwilling people.

I think Rumsfield ought to hire whomever he wants. He has earned my respect and I trust his judgment.

That said, I don't think there is anything inappropriate about the homosexual subject threads of late. The pending triumph of the homosexual agenda is an issue to this conservative and discussion about it on a conservative forum is entirely appropriate--especially given the recent extra-constitutional invention by our supreme court and the pending ordination of a homosexual episcopalian bisohop.

Current events have surely driven you to consider whether these developments are good, have they not?

That said, I do believe there is altogether too much homosexual bashing in the rudest possible language here on FR. Christ did not teach us to hate our neighbors--sinners though they might be--nor did he teach us to demean ourselves with the gutter manners many here think is appropriate when discussing homosexuals.

If Rumsfield doesn't like one of this guy's suggestions, will he say "Nah, that's gay" or "what a fruity idea!".
