Every time someone clicks through on the paid advertisement it costs the advertiser. I think the Google minimum is 5 cents. I think everyone here should try doing a search for "John Lott" on Google and click through the advertisement, just to see how this works. Of course if the advertiser's account runs out of money (there is a monthly limit that the advertiser sets) then Google takes the ad down until more money is authorized.

I have contacted John Lott (the real one) with what I believe to be sufficient information to bring to law enforcement and begin an official investigation into Jonah.

The registration information mixed with his history is damning in a court of public opinion, and hopefully it will be equally damning in a court of law.

My respect for MIT just took a large drop in my eyes for not training this SOB how to cover his tracks better.

Okay: I'm not condoning identity theft, and I know Mr. Lott is probably a nice guy who's been unfairly maligned, etc. But doesn't anyone here find it even slightly amusing?

I mean, John Lott makes up a fake identity (Mary Rosh), to chearlead for himself, and someone not only steals his real identity, but also takes over his fake identity to parody him? It's funny on multiple levels.

Ever since I learned about "Mary Rosh", I've wondered how many of the reviews of Mr. Lott's books are actually him. What if Mary Rosh was the only identity that was actually discovered, but he had others? In fact, I wonder if any of his defenders on FR are actually Lott himself.

I usually don't make light of others misfortunes, but Mr. Lott did get himself into this mess by his own intellectual dishonesty.

It's a pretty obvious fake. The real John Lott has spelling and grammar skills far beyond a high school education, while the fake sight would make one wonder if the author made it past the 5th grade.

Lott made himself a public person and as such forfieted his right to freedom from satire.

He also made his own research suspect by using the Mary Rosh identity.

Now if we use his books at all in debate we have to add the asterix * that he is a goof.

It doesn't matter now how good his work is (and I think it is) because he has ruined it for himself and us.

I have no pity for the man. Let him fight his own rear guard action.
