Halifax Regional Police arrested two men Monday after the pair took each other on - one armed with a knife, the other with a pizza spatula.
The events began at the Newfoundland Grocery Store on Willow Street in Halifax shortly before noon.
Sgt. David Reynolds said two men went into the store and one put a knife to the clerk's throat.
"And in the struggle with the knife under his throat, the employee got nicked in the chin," Sgt. Reynolds said.
The two young robbers fled with some cash and were neither seen or heard of for the next hour or so.
About an hour later, investigating officers checking the neighbourhood found what they believe is the knife used in the robbery.
Sgt. Reynolds said they were still canvassing the neighbourhood for clues when they ended up across from Mia's Pizza shop just as a man burst out of the restaurant armed with a knife.
Police arrested the man, who was not involved in the grocery robbery, and went into the pizza shop to see if everyone was OK. What they found was one of the suspects from the Newfoundland store robbery wielding a pizza flipper.
Sgt. Reynolds said the two men had been fighting outside when one ran into Mia's to get away from the man wielding the knife.
When he realized there was no escape, he grabbed the pizza flipper to defend himself.
"I can tell you if a fella's coming after me with a knife, I'm going to do some flipping," Sgt. Reynolds said.
Both men were arrested. Police are still looking for the second man involved in the grocery robbery. He is described as tall, thin and between the ages of 18 and 20.
