CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- The city's largest outdoor advertising firm has rejected a request from a gay youth support group to rent five billboards with the slogan "It's OK to be gay."

Time Out Youth this summer wants to spend $6,200 in grant and gift money to rent the billboards in Charlotte that also include the group's Web site.

Adams Outdoor Advertising rented the group five billboards around the city for a month in 2001. The billboards featured four teens and the slogan "We are your gay youth," followed by a Web address.

Another outdoor advertising company this week agreed to run Time Out Youth's billboards. Lamar Outdoor Advertising executives rejected the "It's OK to be gay" phrase but agreed to print, "If you're gay, you're OK."

Just wait, the aclu et al will manage to come up with a convoluted reason for claiming a free speech violation. I wish that a judge somewhere would hit them with sanctions for bringing a frivolous lawsuit.

grant and gift money

Gays can't reproduce, they recruit.

I wonder how many taxpayers or donors to 3rd parties like United Way realize their money is going toward homosexual recruiting?

What the H is going on with "teenagers" & the gay slogans on billboards?

Ya think they're 18 and 19 or younger? Article didn't bother to note their web address, which makes it difficult to track the source and recipient of this blatant misuse of "grant" and "gift" money.

I guess if you're queer, you're dear.

Gee, they actually have a conscious, tho I note that Adams did not reject advertising from these losers completely. Maybe "Fags are Fun" would be less "threatening"[smirk].

Why is there no outrage that billboards are even being considered at all? Why is there ZERO condemnation of anything posted in the eye of the general public that is so obviously sexual? If this is ok, is it ok to advertise dildoes on billboards, especially since the SCOTUS said that 'mos have an intrinsic right to practice their disease and those items can be an integral part of said excercise?

It is the accelerated fall of the empire, folks. Think I better head for Gaul to escape the barbarians.

LOL.

Naah, don't avoid NC just because of some crap over in Charlotte.
Those billboards wouldn't last too long on this side of the state, I imagine... if they ever got put up in the first place.

Otherwise, I am doing great!
Work is busy but we're headed to Nags Head on Sunday... renting a house for a week. Hooray!

glad to hear that...I wondered if it was something that might spread, like a fungus, over to the eastern part of the state.

week at the beach...cool. we just got back from my in-laws on the beach in FL.

hey - had to tell you we stopped in wilson, NC sunday night. didn't intend to but got sick of averaging 30mph going north on 95. stopped there at exit 121 around 7pm and let the girls play in the pool....13 hrs in the car was enough for all of us at that point. didn't make it to that BBQ place you were telling me about, though!

have a great vacation.....we're actually going camping this weekend...if I ever get off FR and load up the car!
