Florida Politics Ping!
Why couldn't the other Connie Mack stay in the Senate? And why is he helping Bill McCollum run for the Senate? He should get behind Johnnie Byrd.

Why does want to move and run in a district he doesn't live in? Does he have ties to the area?
I thought he wanted to run for Clay Shaw's seat when he retires, we'll need a strong candidate to keep that one.
So either he doesn't want to wait or wants to go for a safe seat?

That was his grandfather, Baseball Hall of Famer Connie Mack. He managed the Philadelphia Athletics for fifty years. He lasted that long largely because he owned the team.

=smacking head=
Dere's too much carpetbaggin' goin' on in here, too much carpetbaggin' !
Connie, IV needs to cool his jets for Clay Shaw's retirement. We're not lacking for Republicans in any corner of the state. Let a local take Goss's seat (and he's definitely going to be hard to replace, he probably should stay put).

I thought the rumblings had something to do with health concerns, but his retirement cost us the Senate. :-(
"And why is he helping Bill McCollum run for the Senate? He should get behind Johnnie Byrd."
Don't you mean Daniel Webster ? ;-)

Sen. Connie Mack, III's (A.K.A. Cornelius MacGillicuddy, their "real" name) other grandfather was the longtime TX Senator Morris Sheppard and he was also, ironically, the step-grandson of the other TX Senator, Tom Connally. Both Tory Democrats, IIRC.

Connie Mack the Younger has the only white gentile assembly district in Broward County, specially drawn by our legislature. He is DEAD in the rest of the Sheeple's Republic of Broward. Clay Shaw's district may be slightly more Republican (thanks to redistricting) than it was in 2000, when he survived another squeaker in a district that went for Gore by a wide margin. Whoever runs in Clay's district will still have a fight on their hands.

I really hope only one off the 3 (Byrd, Webster, Welodn) runs. Good to see that Jeb is not backing Foley or McCollum.

He's probably the only Repub with a chance to hold it imo.
Except maybe for Jeff Atwater that guy who beat AG Bob Butterworth for a State Senate seat. If he lives in the district that is.
