Technically, she isn't an athiest. She's just in limbo, or needs proof. I'd define her as agnostic. Hopefully, she'll find her way.

I agree she doesn't sound like an atheist at all. More like a questioning Jew who needs an emergency rabbi -- the kind where you rush into the nearest kosher kitchen, break open the glassed-in emergency-rabbinical cabinet, and rush the rabbi inside to the nearest halakhic conflagration.

I don't think she's an agnostic, or a "returning atheist." I think she's a person on a spiritual plateau who is sincerely searching for who/what it is that makes that ultimate connection between God and human.

I believe that is Jesus Christ. Perhaps if everyone who believes likewise will pray for Dr. Laura (or continue to pray for her), He will be found by her. (There's an Old Testament verse in that regard, but I don't remember its specific location.)
