From the Downside Legacy concerning the death of Carl Wilson:

Arkansas Dem Gazette/freeper icwhatudo 1/16/01 “….From the article: "In 1982, he was a key witness in the capital murder trial of Mary Lee Orsini of North Little Rock, convicted in the murder of Alice McArthur, who was shot to death after surviving an attempted bombing. Wilson testified that he sold some liquid explosive to Yankee Hall, who also was convicted in the McArthur case."

ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE 4/4/98 Linda Friedlieb “…… Morrilton lawyer Mark Steven Cambiano, accused of laundering more than $400,000 in drug money, pleaded guilty Friday to a felony for causing a bank to file a cash transaction report lacking crucial information. …….. Cambiano, 42, admitted taking cash from "longtime client and business associate" Willard "Frog Jumper" Burnett of Plumerville and depositing the money in the First National Bank in Morrilton without revealing that about half the cash belonged to Burnett. ...... Howard accepted his guilty plea. Cambiano was accompanied by attorneys Bill McArthur and Blake Hendrix of Little Rock. …….. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Govar told Howard that half of the money was a loan from Burnett, a leader of a methamphetamine ring in Conway County now behind bars. Cambiano signed a promissory note for the loan, Govar said. The other half was Burnett's cash, he said. …... Cambiano faced trial Monday on all the charges in the 31-count indictment including allegations that he laundered money for Burnett, which included donations to the Democratic National Committee and President Clinton's 1993 inaugural committee as well as to pay for a swimming pool and make mortgage payments. ……”

"January and February were difficult times," the chief wrote in his statement. After his arrest March 10, Hale began to prepare a defense. Friends say they knew the charges were of great concern to him but did not believe he was suicidal. Hale, an Arkansas native, had retired as an assistant police chief in Little Rock several years ago and taken a job with the state attorney general. He was hired back as police chief 18 months ago. In the past few months, Hale had made several promotions and assignment changes within the police department. Hale's family and friends say Wimberly was unhappy about the changes. "They believe the whole motivation (for the filming) was based on that unhappiness," said William McArthur, a local attorney hired by the Hale family."Friends say they knew the charges were of great concern to him but did not believe he was suicidal. "If we'd have thought that, we'd have sat and held his hand," said Best, the lieutenant.

Clinton , and Bill McArthur working their was up in the state. McArthur defense lawyer -- top 3 in country. Gene Lyons on praising McArthur. Alice McArthur, his wife. Tommy Robinson "Captain Hot Dog", tough guy, wanted to eliminate crime in Arkansas. Stopped armed robery in Arkansas for 4 straight years. Robinson jailed 4 top oficers and McArthur let them out. Hated each other. …….Mary lee Orceinne - widowed, husband shot in back of head. Scandal. She was the most likely suspect but of course McArthur got her off, then they started courting……. Everyone loved her. Had 3 seperate boyfriends, Yankee Hall (in jail). Wanted to be in politics, stalked her pray. ….. Alice McArthur knew about affair, wanted to leave him. ….. This is all about Alice's murder I think. I thought it would be more about Clinton. I don't think I'll go on. Sorry folks……”

“…. I am sorry for wasting all this space. But here was something interesting at the end of the show…… Orcini hired someone to kill McArthurs wife. She and 2 orthers went to jail. Sherif Robinson arrested McArthur too. Thought he was involved. The politics and fighting got so bad, a judge had to order and independent council to look into this (which was very unusual for this type of case) ……. Grand jury found him innocent…….. Robinson, went on to House of Rep. Ended up in the House Banking Scandal. Wasn't indicted for this and should have been, and he wasn't re-elected. ……. Politics in Arkansas went on. They sent Bill Clinton to the White house who had denials & impeachment ! (Oh this was the best part - this is his legacy being cited already !)……”

http://www.foiarkansas.com/2000/0324robinson.shtml3/24/00 David Robinson ".....Mary Lee Orsini, serving life without parole for the murder of her lawyer's wife, was wrongly denied a Circuit Court hearing on her 1997 Freedom of Information Act request, the Arkansas Supreme Court ruled Thursday....... Orsini, 52, had requested incident reports by corrections officers after she was disciplined for belligerence toward a Department of Correction guard...... Orsini, convicted in Pulaski County in the 1982 death of Alice McArthur, contends the information was vital to her defense at the 1997 disciplinary hearing..... The high court's ruling reverses the Jefferson County Circuit Court decision that denied Orsini's hearing request, and it orders that a hearing be conducted....."

Arkansas Democrat Gazette 1/16/01 Jay Meisel “……Relatives of Carl Wilson said Monday that they don't believe he would have shot at police officers if he had known the men coming into his house on Friday were lawmen. ...... Wilson's family said the raid by agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Faulkner County sheriff's deputies and Conway police Special Weapons and Tactics team members left them with questions about why the shooting occurred. ….. The lawmen left a search warrant saying they were looking for a .30-30 Winchester rifle and ammunition. …… Wilson was a figure in two high-profile murder cases in Pulaski County during the past 20 years -- the slayings of Alice McArthur and Johnny Burnett. He was not charged in either case. ……… Bill Buford, agent in charge of the bureau's Little Rock office, said Carl Wilson, 60, fired at officers as they approached the house. He said that Sgt. Jason Young of the Faulkner County sheriff's office and Larry Hearn, a Conway police officer on the SWAT team, received minor injuries. Officers returned fire, killing Wilson. Buford said Wilson knew the men entering his home were officers. …….But Tammy Wilson, Carl Wilson's widow, said she never heard officers identify themselves. She said she was sleeping when an alarm clock woke her and she heard what sounded like firecrackers. ….. Regardless of how the shooting started, Tammy Wilson said, she doesn't understand why so many federal agents and local police officers would break into the house in the early morning hours, just to search for one gun. ……..”

Arkansas Democrat Gazette 1/16/01 Jay Meisel “……During the past 40 years, Carl Wilson's name was well-known to authorities. In the 1960s, he served several prison terms in Oklahoma and Arkansas for property crimes, including burglary and unauthorized use of a vehicle. ...... In 1982, he was a key witness in the capital murder trial of Mary Lee Orsini of North Little Rock, convicted in the murder of Alice McArthur, who was shot to death after surviving an attempted bombing. Wilson testified that he sold some liquid explosive to Yankee Hall, who also was convicted in the McArthur case. …….lso in 1982, Wilson fatally shot William E. "Sonny" Evans, 43, of Mayflower. Wilson told authorities he was examining a gun when it accidentally fired, and a bullet penetrated a wall and hit Evans, who was in another room. ...... Eleven years later, Wilson was named as a possible suspect in the murder of Johnny Burnett of Little Rock, who at one time employed him at Burnett Pools and Spas. But Wilson was never charged. …… In 1988 Wilson was charged with first-degree battery in connect with the shooting of his wife. He told authorities it was accidental. The disposition of those charges could not be determined. …….”
