Baby's skull fractured in 'cowardly' gang attack

A five-week-old girl is in hospital with a fractured skull
after she and her father were attacked by a gang of youths in Maroubra.

Jeremy Nunes, 26, was walking home on Thursday night after visiting his parents when he was attacked in Hinkler St, about 8pm (AEST).

He was carrying his baby daughter, Elizabeth, in a harness. The group of four or five young men knocked Mr Nunes to the ground, kicking and punching him in the head.

Mr Nunes is still recovering in the Prince of Wales Hospital, while Elizabeth is in a serious but stable condition in the Sydney Childrens' Hospital at Randwick.

Doctors say it may be years before it can be determined whether she has suffered permanent brain damage as a result of the attack.

Mr Nunes and his wife Catherine told reporters today Elizabeth was lucky to be alive and urged any witnesses to the assault to come forward.

Maroubra police Inspector Eddie Bosch said it was a cowardly assault with no motive.

"They must have seen the young baby and to continue kicking (Mr Nunes) when he was lying on the ground, when the baby was obviously going to get injured as well, was just disgusting."

I did some research on this before I posted it.

No where in the half dozen or so stories on this did I find description of the gang members- outside of the vague "medium build, medium height" routine. This lack of any real description, plus the fact that roving gangs of Muslim youths have been terrorizing non-Muslims Aussies now for for some time...

Well, all I can say is: "You can hide the fire, but you can't hide the smoke."

That poor baby. A "skull fracture" in an infant is quite a bit more serious than it sounds. The plates of an infant's skull are soft and not joined together in order to allow planty of room for the rapidly growing brain.

My prayes go to her parents for her full recovery. I hope there isn't too much brain damage.

Hope the little savages that did this are caught. Unfortunately, with the media protecting them, there's no way anyone is going to recognize them and turn them in.

In England a few years ago, I saw a news story about some vicious gang murder. They gave the names of the arrestees, what council estate (public housing project) they lived in, height, weight, etc.-- but NO mention of race, and NO photos. The camera pointed down at their feet and legs as they did the perp walk. But the shiny track suits and expensive basketball shoes told me all I needed to know. Whitewashing in the name of diversity strikes again.

I wonder if British TV shows the faces of white suspects?

The press in Britain actually has many laws it must follow when covering arrests and trials. Much information must be withheld from the public as a matter of law. Britain's limitations on what can be made public about arrests and trials are suprising.
