SACRAMENTO, CA (Talon News) -- California State Sen. Tom McClintock, a Republican candidate for governor in the upcoming recall election, blasted Democrat Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante's plan to eliminate California's budget deficit by raising taxes up to $10 billion.
"I was hoping for more of a message of hope and optimism from our Lt. Governor," McClintock said. "What California received was more of the failed Gray Davis type leadership from the second most powerful person in the state."
"When the Lt. Governor says we have to 'sacrifice' he is not kidding. Unfortunately, it is the hard-working, taxpaying families of California that will suffer and not his special interest and public employee union friends," McClintock added.
Sen. McClintock criticized Bustamante for his $10 billion tax increase plan which comes at a time when "state government is taking a higher percentage of California's personal income than at any time in our history."
"This will mean that working families and small businesses will have to find another $1,150 somewhere in their budgets to continue the Sacramento spending spree," McClintock said.
Comparing Bustamante to Davis, McClintock said, "Much like Governor Davis, who called his illegal tripling of the car tax a 'cut' in state spending, Mr. Bustamante includes the transfer of some $2 BILLION of mandated socialized medicine costs to small businesses as a 'savings' for the state."
McClintock has made the reduction of the car tax one of the cornerstone issues of his campaign for governor. Speaking on MSNBC's "Hardball," McClintock Deputy Campaign Manage John Stoos called the car tax a "red-hot issue that's going to carry the day."
"President Bill Clinton, who's giving advice now to Governor Gray Davis, lost his governorship after raising, simply raising the car tax in his state of Arkansas," Stoos said. "Jim Gilmore took over the state of Virginia using the car tax as an issue. Tom McClintock has been spending the last five years trying to abolish this tax, which Governor Gray Davis just tripled in June."
McClintock said in a statement that it was "obvious" that Bustamante will not join him in "abolishing the car tax." McClintock also criticized Bustamante for failing to address "the $42 billion of overpriced power contracts."
"It's time Cruz Bustamante explains why we should vote no on the recall but support him for governor," McClintock said. "He can't have it both ways. If he thinks Davis' dismal record is worth defending, he should make that case. If he really wants to replace him, how would he do things differently?"

Yes and, one of them is Ah-nold The Movie Star with dreams of immoral liberal behavior. Ah-nold says the USA needs the CA economy, What economy? If all the busunesses in CA. leave won't they still produce product but, in another Sate that doesn't specialize in wealth transfer thru taxes.
And Virginia is still paying for the tax revenues that were lost (but still "recompensated" to the localities that expected them).
Don't try your fast Eddie verbage on me. You obviously are non of what I referred to. You are an Ah-nold supporter who must support all the immoral, gayrights, gay marriages, gay adoption, gun control programs Ah-nold does along with the his liberal fruit cakes companions who set around the Democrat table.
Otherwords you are on your knees looking for a winner at any costs and at the expense to all the good moral folks in that state.
You are a KNEE PAD conservative.
Get off your knees and stand for something good and respectable. Gees!
After the language in your comments you should consider practicing what you preach.

You don't need to live there to see where your state has gone wrong. In fact all one has to do is recognise by your statement above, you are one of its inhabitants. NICE
Well said. Maybe he got a phone call to remind him where his loyalties really lie, or somebody just slapped him around a little bit. Either way, its good.
