The tax impasse at the Nevada Legislature claimed its first political victim Monday night.
Assemblywoman Dawn Gibbons, R-Reno, said Monday that the squabble over taxes has convinced her to not seek re-election.
Gibbons, wife of U.S. Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Reno, said she no longer wants to work in a Legislature where people don

"Jim Gibbons office has said he will announce his future plans in August, but state political leaders have predicted he will go up against U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., in 2004."
Yesterday I pinged you guys about an article from CNN that said Jim won't run against Reid, but I found this on Google, and found it interesting the State GOP officials think Jimbo will take the plunge.
Let's hope that THIS article is the correct one.

Well . . . I don't really know. Considering that she could run for state senate and he could run for guv if he passes on senate . . . the possible extrapolations are endless.

Kenny Guinn won't endorse Harry Reid for Senate next year, if Gibbons weren't going to run I think Guinn would endorse Reid so I think he will run:
http://www.rgj.com/news/stories/html/2003/07/30/48185.php?sp1=rgj&sp2=News&sp3=Local+News Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., says he was surprised to learn Republican Nevada Gov. Kenny Guinn won't be endorsing his candidacy for re-election next year.
"I thought he would have called me or something first. I was a little bit surprised to read about it in the paper,"Reid said Tuesday.
Reid confirmed that he has been telling people that Guinn might back his re-election, saying,"Sure, I was thinking that, yeah. I've said it several times."
Following press inquiries last week, Guinn spokesman Greg Bortolin announced the governor wouldn't endorse Reid's bid for a fourth term. Bortolin noted the governor and Reid are in different parties.
Guinn hasn't said whether he would back Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., if Gibbons decides to challenge Reid in next year's U.S. Senate race.
Gibbons was a leading critic of the governor's tax increase proposal this year. Guinn filed the state Supreme Court action that led to a ruling that lawmakers could ignore a two-thirds majority voting requirement on taxes _ a constitutional provision Gibbons championed.

if Gibbons weren't going to run I think Guinn would endorse Reid so I think he will run: That would be odd considering, as Guinn's spokesman pointed out, the two are in different parties. Why would Reid think Guinn would endorse him at all? It's very strange.

Well Reid at one point THOUGHT Guinn would endorse him, so the fact that he didn't endorse him suggests that Guinn doesn't think Reid will be there in January 2005 (At least I HOPE that's the reason).

All I know is that Reid, for whatever reason, was expecting an endorsement from Guinn - and he was shocked that he didn't get it.
I don't know how Gibbon's wife voted in the state assembly.
