Abandon every hope, ye who do not Homeschool!

"Through me the way into the suffering city,
Through me the way to the eternal pain,
Through me the way that runs among the lost.
Justice urged on my high artificer;
My maker was divine authority,
The highest wisdom, and the primal love.
Before me nothing but eternal things were made,
And I endure eternally.
Abandon every hope, ye who enter here."
While using the internet as a resource to develop a homeschool curriculum for my 12 year old, I stumbled across a wonderful resource that I feel I must share with my fellow Freepers found here. The author uses the text of "The Inferno" for lively and thorough lessons in grammar including Pronouns and Antecedents, Parallel Structure, Subjects, Verbs and Pronouns, and Active and Passive Voice.
Using my google "I Feel Lucky" search- I also found this a nifty quiz to determine one's ultimate destination.
I also found several excellent sources for further information, such as the link in the "source URL" above
and ultimately, thanks to Lily Langtree- the book itself
I look forward to comments from my fellow Freepers. I must add that I was assisted in my vanity post by the vices of Gluttony, including a very nice California Merlot, and Pride...okay, I lied to score so high on the quiz...but I suspect that if one scores highly enough in the "Repenting Believers" category, that one can always escape Hell. I was mildly disappointed to wind up in Purgatory, having left Catholicism for Presbyterianism...

Good catch, fun quiz. I only made it to level 5. I hate being "average".

I took the test - what a hoot!
I got to level 5 - Wrathful and Gloomy.
I know it was that, "sports car or SUV" question.
Maybe it was the "Yes" to "Do some people just deserve to die?"
Thanks for the chuckle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The river Styx runs through this level of Hell, and in it are punished the wrathful and the gloomy. The former are forever lashing out at each other in anger, furious and naked, tearing each other piecemeal with their teeth. The latter are gurgling in the black mud, slothful and sullen, withdrawn from the world. Their lamentations bubble to the surface as they try to repeat a doleful hymn, though with unbroken words they cannot say it. Because you lived a cruel, vindictive and hateful life, you meet your fate in the Styx. So you are saying that you drove your SUV on a highway to Hell??

You have come to a place mute of all light, where the wind bellows as the sea does in a tempest. This is the realm where the lustful spend eternity. Here, sinners are blown around endlessly by the unforgiving winds of unquenchable desire as punishment for their transgressions. The infernal hurricane that never rests hurtles the spirits onward in its rapine, whirling them round, and smiting, it molests them. You have betrayed reason at the behest of your appetite for pleasure, and so here you are doomed to remain. Cleopatra and Helen of Troy are two that share in your fate.Yeah, that Lust is a killer...

Incidentally, FreeRepublic is probably one of the most corrupting sites out there for young ones trying to master grammar, unless they're supposed to correct all the posts.

Too true! One can only diagram so many sentences. That is why I am looking into alternative resources for my kid...including this one...
"The Deluxe Transitive Vampire: The Ultimate Handbook of Grammar for the Innocent, the Eager, and the Doomed," by Karen Elizabeth Gordon
Any grammar text that can include vampires and doomed for my "Too Cool for Harry Potter" twelve year old, has acquired an instant fan. Although, I still require him to study Latin!
I am just feeling giddy because I enrolled my seventeen year old in college...a year early.

Well damn, this is embarassing:
The Dante's Inferno Test has sent you to Purgatory!
Here is how you matched up against all the levels:
Take the Dante's Inferno Hell TestAll the way to Level 8, just because I said it was okay to use false flattery to get ahead (heck, most jobs I've had seemed to require it). Or maybe it was the part about harping on political scandals. If that's true I'll have lots of Freeper company in the Malebolge...
And some people DO just deserve to die, that's just all there is to it.
