The conservative commentator James Hirsen, a columnist for Newsmax.com and a regular on Fox News and "The Sean Hannity Show," once played keyboards for the touring Temptations. At the time he was the only white face in the group.

His hiring, he says, was "no affirmative action decision. I really had to be funky, or I lost the gig."

The party of John F. Kennedy and Jesse Jackson has turned an embarrassed cheek to its own charismatic past, preferring in recent years to cast itself as efficient, businesslike and not in any way associated with the radical longhairs some of its members may have been during the dreaded 1960s.

Efficient? Businesslike? I don't think so.

How about foolish and foolhardy, instead?

Some of the angiest, psychotic, whacked-otu people I have met are declared liberals.

As a kid, I remember seeing Lee Atwater on Letterman sitting in on guitar and blue suit. He wasn't terrible, IIRC.

Yup, that's the problem, Dems... you've just become too stuffy and businesslike (snicker)...

For better or worse, Davis represents the present-day face of the Democratic Party in America -- apparently humorless, wonkish, staid and distant.

Oh, I'm extremely sorry to have to tell you that you forgot "stupid, irrelevant, communistic, wimpy, un-American, dangerous, lying, cheating, untrustworthy, sorry excuses for human beings."

"Gray Davis is a profoundly un-funky man."

ROTFL!

"Joseph Lieberman, the Connecticut senator, is taken to task in Goldberg's book for his persistent attacks during the 2000 presidential campaign on Hollywood's perceived lack of morals."

Sheesh, a democrat actually does something right, and his party crucifies him. Party of tolerance, huh? I guess it depends on what the meaning of the word, "tolerance" is.

"conservatism begins to look refreshing. Gosh, they're happy, they smile, they tell jokes, they have fun.

Too right. There is a large class of PJ O'Rourke/South Park conservatives out there (I count myself in that group) which the GOP is ignoring in order to court those who support Ashcroft's statue-draping: hell, it's their loss.
