Arnold Schwarzenegger for the first time in his gubernatorial race commented publicly Wednesday on abortion, gun control and gay rights as his campaign continued a weeklong effort to woo conservative voters.

Speaking on the Sean Hannity talk radio program, which has a wide following among conservatives, Schwarzenegger stuck to generally liberal positions on social issues but sought to stress the areas in which his views and those of conservatives coincide.

Ah, yes.The mythical gun show "LOOPHOLE". What CRAP!!

If this is SO prevelent, why hasn't the media (never to miss a chancto screw gun owners) come out on 20/20, Dateline, etc with "guns are SO EASY to get at gun shows, that we took our hidden cameras to several shows & ourchased ALL THESE WEAPONS"?

I'll tell ya why......BECAUSE THEY CAN'T!

Arnold's campaign is roaring out of the station. There is now no catching him. McClintock should wait for the right moment and endorse Arnold. This would be the final stake in the rats' hearts and you will avoid being the guy who saved the governor's seat for the rats. grayout is gone. bustamywallet is as good as dead. Only Tommy Mc can save cruz. What will it be Tom? Will you save cruz or help Arnold and preserve your reputation? Save your powder for the next fight Tom, mexifornia is too many clicks to the left for you to win. Let Arnold pull the state to the right a bit then; make your move.

Asked by Elder about the minimum wage and paid family leave, for example, Schwarzenegger replied: "I support the laws that exist right now."

Davis signed a paid family leave bill a few months ago. I think it turned out to be a job-killer and business repellant, as expected.

What ARE you thinking, trying to bring reason, facts and strategy to bear against anti-Arnold/I-will-only-vote-for-Messiah sloganeering cliches?

What ARE you thinking??

Schwarzenegger said he supported several gun control measures, including background checks, trigger locks, a ban on assault rifles, and efforts to restrict the sale of guns at gun shows.

Trigger locks ought not be mandatory. I disagree with the restrictions that render a gun useless for self-defense. But, they are already required, as are background checks. CA already bans "assault rifles," as does the US, but CA includes more weapons or features in its list. Buying a gun at a gun show is not much different than buying one at a store -- you still have to go through all the paperwork with a federally licensed dealer. Does he intend to change anything?

But he added pointedly that he believed the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution guarantees individuals the right to bear arms.

Is he going to do anything about it, such as changing the arbitrary nature of CCW permit issuance or the limits on carrying in populated areas? What does he think of the proposed .50 caliber bans, bullet taxes, and increased registration requirements? I wish he would clarify.

When you live in hell, vote for the devil. He's the only guy who can win. That's your solution?

Why don't you move out of hell and let the devil and his supporters fester and rot?

I am beginning to think McClintock may be irrelevant to the outcome. Arnold is doing the right things to capture the center. Never underestimate the man. He is a phenomenon who will do more real good for the GOP than the purists like McClintock, because he will change peoples' hearts toward good government and basic GOP principles and not just appeal to those naturally predisposed to him who listen to conservative talk radio.

McClintock is a good man who would make a good auditor or comptroller or something along those lines.

From the article: The campaign has carefully limited the time of interviews to no more than 15 minutes and has refused to allow the actor to take calls from listeners, limiting the potential for unexpected questions or detailed follow-ups.

I see, he probably won't clarify his positions if he won't answer listener questions. Disappointing.

. . . . basic GOP principles

Which basic GOP principles do you have in mind? What basic GOP principles does Arnold champion? Be specific.

Here's an article in the Atlanta Journal Constitution: Talk Show Host Draws Schwarzenegger Out on Issues. I caught some clips of it on Fox News last night. It stopped me in my tracks when he said he would "Close the gun show loophole". I hope someone with access to him or his staff can explain that California HAS no "gun show loophole". If he DOES know that, then he's pandering to the "sensible gun control" crowd. Just try to buy a gun via "private sale" at a gun show, and see how far you get. I have purchased a revolver from a private party at a gun show, had to find an FFL to do the paperwork, then leave it with him for the 10 day waiting period.

Here are his carefully time-controlled sound bite answers so far:

Gay marriage? "Yes and no. Next question."

Legalized dope? "Yes and no. Next question."

Abortion? "Yes and no, but mostly yes. Next question."

Gun control? "Yes. Next question."

School vouchers? "No. Next question."

Higher taxes? "Only in an emergency. Next question."

Is California experiencing a fiscal emergency? "Next question."

For this, Arnold gets praise for his "straightforward" answers and applause for his "conservative" views?

What a pathetic joke.

Kevin? Hi. This is Reality. We haven't talked in awhile.

So, Kevin, you will have two choices in October. If you're old enough to use a computer, you should be old enough to know that you "can't always get what you want," even if you're not old enough to know the Stones song.

Somewhere along the way, you also should have learned that each election is always, without exception, a choice for the lesser of two evils. You are never voting for God or Messiah. Both are already in position, and their capital IS NOT California.

Additionally, someone should have told you that politics is the art of the possible.

There is no primary this time, just an election. So, in that election, Kevin, you can help elect a Democrat, or a Republican. Help the Democrat -- Bustamonte -- by voting directly for him, or by not voting for his only opponent, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Which one of the two will you pick, Kevin? Bustamonte? Or Schwarzenegger?

It's been nice having this brief chat. I hope we can see each other again some time.

But that's your choice too.

Regards,
Reality

If you vote Schwarzenegger you are voting for half a loaf. If you vote McClintock you are actually voting for Mr. Mexifornia Bustamnate. And he will steal your loaf through taxation and regulations.

Yeah. But you can feel so smug and superior, as your neighbors lose their jobs, go into bankruptcy, and your children's friends move out of state -- and as th emost conservative folks flee CA, leaving it further and further left!

I have pulled on my flameproof bvd's. NOW- My contention is that the GOP needs to cool it in this little tempest. LET Bustamante win this thing and LET HIM (AND THE DEMOCRAPS) REAP THE BENEFITS OF THE CURRENT KALIFORNIA SITUATION.The good LORD himself probably couldnt straighten this mess out, but the GOP would benefit mightily when the whole mess crashes around the Democrats ears.Let Busty raise taxes and run the few taxpayers left out of the state.THEN let the republicans (little r) run a REAL REPUBLICAN ( I know, I'm hallucinating) and get back to real values..Otherwise,fence Kalifornia in and let it drop into the ocean... : )

Arnold is solidly pro-business, anti-taxes and supports the right to bear arms. Those are three right there. I'm not even going to get into more advanced stuff like partial birth abortions and gay marriage, both of which he is against.

Now, the nitpickers will say he is not unequivocal enough on any of those issues. "My guy is better." Well, for the masses of California voters, his positions are a great start. They need to take the introductory class before going for the Ph.D, they are not ready yet for McClintock and his absolutism.

For real straight answers on the issues, listen to 600 on the AM radio dial in SoCal or online at KOGO this afternoon, 3-6PM, for Tom McClintock's Town Hall. You can call-in to ask him questions at 800-600-kogo.

Unfortunately, Arnold Schwarzenegger so far did not want to guest-host a day or even an hour during Roger Hedgecock's vacation. Neither would Bustamante or Davis, but it's understandable that the democrats did not want to face a hostile audience. AS still has time to change his mind. It would be nice if he did.

Arnold is solidly pro-business, anti-taxes and supports the right to bear arms.

If so, how can he support the job-killing family leave law that Davis signed? I know that the next governor can't repeal the law, but that's no reason for Schwarzenegger to volunteer his support for that bill.

The tax issue has been discussed on many other threads.

All elected politicians claim to support the right to bear arms. Even Feinstein, Boxer, Clinton, Davis, and Bustamante.
