I don't mean to be nasty. This is just weighing so heavily on my mind and heart. I'm not an alarmist type person. I don't subscribe to conspiracy theories. I'm not some hick trying to get a rise out of people -- but this truly is a matter of life and death. And the more I read about this type of thing happening and these types of people who are so anxious to promote euthanasia and the culture of death, the more determined I become to do something.

I didn't mean to offend you, but I won't ease up. They're going to kill Terri Schiavo. "Legallly." And the ramifications terrify me. As well they should us all.

And I love your office, BTW. It's very similar to my own. Except I have RC airplanes hanging all over the place. (My hubby's hobby.)

I heard somewhere that the "fund" is around $750,000. Really, not a princely sum these days (although more than my net worth).

Maybe it's too late, but funds have been raised for less worthy causes. If that $750,00 could be raised on her behalf, he'd get his money and he could divorce her, and then the settlement funds would still be there to provide for her care.

Well ... it's a thought ... something has to move this situation in a different direction.

I wonder if Florida's Adult Protective Services can step in?

The court is allowing her "husband" to use this money to pay her "doctor" at $450/hr if I remember correctly. I saw something about that on Terri's website this evening.

I'm not familiar with that organization. I'll Google it. Good thinking though. Also pursuing some very interesting things with regard to ethical/evidentiary/procedural violations on the part of both M.Schiavo/Felos and the court system on the Call to Action thread.

It's okay, hon. There are so many on this forum who jump and scream and finger-point that it's hard to find the kind souls sometimes.

I agree that Terri must be saved from the terrible fate of starvation and I do think, from what I have learned that her husband is guilty about her state and needs to go to prison, MHO.

Thanks for the kind words about our office. It used to be our service porch, now I take fifteen more steps out to the used to be work shop to do the wash! ; )

Well, you deserve the apology. I don't know why I'm so emotional over this -- I would be normally, but I'm near tears for this poor woman and her family. Just hitting me close to home I suppose.

APS is the adult version of child protective services. It covers all adults technically but is geared towards the elderly and the disabled. They have the ability to remove legal guardians and caretakers from positions of authority if those individuals are found to be abusive or neglectful. Certainly, a case for that could be made in regards to Michael Schiavo.

Anyone can file a complaint.

"suffered massive brain damage when she collapsed at their home 13 years ago under unexplained circumstances at the age of 26."

Maybe he was trying to get rid of her 13 years ago?

We have to file with someone who would be willing to do the follow-up; otherwise, it will just get thrown in the trash. Is there anyone who knows someone inside the APS?

No need to apologize!
You are showing your heart in caring about this poor girl!

Do you have family who went through this, not that it's my business? I have had miscarriages, premature births, and birth defects with each, but not all of my children. My beloved gramma languished in a "rest home" for eight months until she passed.

She had bedsores and was so bunged up once when I went to visit (Blacked eye and stitches in her eyebrow) I was ready to kill someone. It turned out that some new-hire put her in a chair when she went to change her bed and didn't strap her in so she fell like a rag doll and broke her eye.

I know how you feel. Bless.

I'm in California so I don't. I'm a RN and I have filled out a few reports. Yes, you're right, they have to be worded in such a way to get someone's attention and it is helpful to know someone on the inside.

Perhaps a good place to start would be medical neglect. Although Schiavo hasn't actively done anything to harm her recently, he has refused to do things which are resulting in harm.

I wonder if one of the nurses at the hospital or hospice would be willing to write one.

I can't help but think that surely there's a nurse somewhere who knows what's going on. Perhaps tomorrow we can get some Florida people in on it.

I'm so sorry about your gramma. I haven't been in this serious a situation personally. My darling son was born 3 months early at 2lbs3oz but is great at age 4! My dear hubby was severely burned at work 10 years ago and we got through that (he couldn't feed himself but only because of bandages, etc. - I was happy to oblige him.)

I suppose my feelings come from having worked in the terminal section of a nursing home. I was the opposite of the youngster who let your gramma get bungled up. They were my pals, surrogate-grandparents, and yes I had 2 vegetative-state patients whom I adored and spoiled horribly. I'm not tooting my horn, but I'm proud to say I passed my Certified Nurse Assistant test with a perfect score and went on to fall in love with everyone on my floor. I cried bitterly when I lost a patient and later when I left to be married. After I moved down here with dear hubby I got more into my field of study at college and have since concentrated on graphic design with a little law thrown in for good measure. :-)

According to one article I read, there is only about $350,000 left. The parents offered to pay him whatever is left if he would give up guardianship, but he refused.

I'm so pleased that you have found a new direction. I know you will do well since you are such a caring person.

My youngest wasn't born nearly as prematurly as your son. He was 36 weeks and 5 pounds eight ounces and on life-support for ten days. The docs blew a hole in his lung with the ventilator (pneumo-thorax), he lost weight and I spent all ten days sitting next to him, holding his little hand and watching him look at pictures of his brothers I had taped to the inside of his basinette.

Many were the wonderful girls who tended to the babies in the NICU. They expressed to me (privately) their disgust with the (mainly) moms, and sometimes dads who seldom if ever isited their babies and spoke with reverence of those who had their little ones baptised and held them as they passed.

I hope your hubby is okay now. Again good luck in your .

I can't imagine a more heart-breaking job other than pediatric oncology.

Best of luck in your new endevour.
