Toby Keith Comes Clean [admits to being a Republican voter]

(7/17/03, 4 p.m. ET) -- Toby Keith has no problem sharing himself with his fans, but he may have taken that to a new level. Keith answered a few questions for Blender magazine in their new issue, and there are a few revelations that might raise an eyebrow or two.

For instance, he was asked about his political affiliation, and he said, "I was raised southern Democrat, and my dad and granddad would roll over in their graves if they knew I voted Republican. My dad used to say, 'We don't have enough money to be Republicans.' Well, I do have enough."

For "Who's your dream girl?", Keith replied, "Other than my wife? You know who I was a freak for? Jeannie (Barbara Eden) from I Dream Of Jeannie. She was a hottie with that midriff showing."

Perhaps the most surprising answers came in regard to his physical state. Keith says with a laugh that he's "six-foot-four--and eight inches," and admits to having shaved more than a few places on his body: "I've trimmed everything close once or twice, except my legs. It's summertime, and it's hot, you just take it all down--chest, armpits, crotch, everything."

And he'll never have enough money with that mind-set. And, BTW, what does he mean by "enough"? I would venture to say he has exactly enough for the way he currently thinks.

He wrote one of the best songs to come out of the 9/11 tragedy - "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (the Angry American)". It contained the words that come closest to describing my feelings on the matter - "We'll put a boot in your a**, it's the American way." A little crude but oh so satisfying.

Actually better than "The Angry American" is his new duet with Willie Nelson. "Beer for my Horses." This song talks about justice the old fashioned way. "Take all the rope in Texas, find a tall oak tree, round up those bad boys, hand up high in the streets...for all the people to see."

Then is a stroke of sheer genius, instead of sitting around and being sad, then heading off as a group for grief counseling, Toby and Willie sing..."We'll all meet back at the local saloon. We'll raise up our glasses against evil forces singing Whiskey for our men and beer for our horses."

Big surprise that he votes the right way! NOT.

His dad is dead. He was in the army, and was severely injured - lost an eye. 'Red, White, and Blue' was written to honor/memorialize his father.

Yea, I know. Willie's dem scum. I heard that he agreed to sing the duet without even reading the words. He said that he was told the title of the song had whisley and beer. That was enough for him.

I remember one very active tank during the first few weeks of the war that blew up a couple of Saddam statues that was named "Courtesy of the Red White and Blue". Great CD. Our troops love to listen to Toby while they are visiting our Airport.

I see, so the only reason to be a Pubbie (rather than a Rat) is to get a tax break? How about the fact the they're much stronger on national defense, and 2nd Amendment rights, and that most are pro-life?

I think the key word was 'Southern' dim. The South used to belong to the dims - when they were conservative. Pubbies were the limo liberals, or country club Rep back then. Remember, we only had the 3 alphabet sources for news, and did not realize how biased they were.

I love "Beer For My Horses". I have started enjoying country music a little more the last year. I used to be very elitist about my music and convinced that CM was ignorant, but now I realize that, to a certain degree, fans of CM are allies in the culture war we are currently waging in America.

Big Toby Keith Bump. True story-I was telling my wife that the only act I would see in concert these days is Toby Keith-fat chance of that ever happening since I live in Joisey. The next morning I was watching Fox and Friends and an ad came out saying he was playing in central Jersey at the PNC Art Center. You could have knocked me over with a feather. Got my tickets the first day they went on sale and look forward to seeing him on Sept. 6th.
