John Kerry:1998
"If there is not unfettered, unrestricted, unlimited access per the U.N. resolution for inspections, and UNSCOM cannot in our judgment appropriately perform its functions, then we obviously reserve the rights to press that case internationally and to do what we need to do as a nation in order to be able to enforce those rights," Kerry said February 23, 1998. "Saddam Hussein has already used these weapons and has made it clear that he has the intent to continue to try, by virtue of his duplicity and secrecy, to continue to do so. That is a threat to the stability of the Middle East. It is a threat with respect to the potential of terrorist activities on a global basis. It is a threat even to regions near but not exactly in the Middle East."
John Kerry: 2002
"If Saddam Hussein is unwilling to bend to the international community's already existing order, then he will have invited enforcement, even if that enforcement is mostly at the hands of the United States, a right we retain even if the Security Council fails to act. But until we have properly laid the groundwork and proved to our fellow citizens and our allies that we really have no other choice, we are not yet at the moment of unilateral decision-making in going to war against Iraq."
(September 6, 2002 NYTimes Op Ed)
Two things have changed since 1998:
Saddam has had four years without inspectors to expand his WMD programs.

Kerry Kicks Off Campaign in State He Once Trashed When Sen. John Kerry officially announces his presidential candidacy today in South Carolina, he better hope local Democrats don't remember how he trashed the state as being unimportant to his presidential campaign earlier this year.

turn this speech into a "baptist revival" indicating that baptists are fanatics. Why? Does Kerry think himself worthy of being treated as an object of worship?

Can Heinz Ketchup cause madness? I'm told by a reliable source the newly released green variety of ketchup is highly suspect ... further, Kerry was recruited early on in the test phase ... and recommended Heinz go to market with it ... strong proof indeed it may cause madness.

Kerry is one of those who stabbed us in the back in Vietnam.
Now, he's trying to make like he did it just for us and the good of this country.
Scr*w him!

So Kerry came home from Viet Nam and joined with other vets to protest a war he didn't think was right.
Now, he says we aren't running the war well and should have spent more time getting a broader coalition before we invaded. (read that: France and Germany. The coalition countries that have given support are nothing but chopped liver I guess). Kerry says American needs "friends". Uh huh, read that France and Germany too!
Kerry must ascribe to much the same philosophy as Dominique de Villipin. As read here:
The new collective-security system should be "founded on collective responsibility and world democracy," de Villepin said. In particular, he said that France was now looking favorably to the idea of enlarging membership of the U.N. Security Council and vesting it with expanded powers. While he provided no specifics in his speech, aides later said that he believed Germany, Japan, India, Brazil and a major African power such as Nigeria all should be given permanent seats on the council, along with veto power over all Security Council resolutions, including those authorizing the use of force.
In a direct dig at the Bush administration, de Villepin insisted that no nation should be allowed to use force, even in the defense of its own interests, without specific approval from the Security Council. "Using force is often tempting," he said, but "can only be justified if collective security or urgent humanitarian needs require it." Force must be "a last resort," and "only when the international community, through the Security Council, decides."

Wasn't Bush in Kerry's unit in Vietnam? Oh no, they were in Skull & Bones together instead.

Does anyone know if Kerry ever served in Vietnam? ;]
someone hinted that he may have served in Bob Mulholland's units - the Braggadier Battalion perhaps?

Kerry volunteered for the Navy, volunteered for Vietnam, voluteered for a fast attack boat in the Mekong Delta, and was awarded a Silver Star, A Bronze Star, and three Purple Hearts. He turned into an anti war activist after the war.
He risked his life for this country while alot of the chicken hawks were trying to figure out which of their daddy's friends could get them a national guard slot.
Kerry is wrong on issues, but I am not going to sit back and let people besmirch his service. He risked his life in Vietnam, and not in the Al Gore, journalism kinda way. He was injured several times, and had bullets whizzing by his head constantly.
It is a very bad idea to attack his war record, considering Dick Cheney said "he had other priorities", rather than serve in Vietnam, and Bush kept Alabama safe.
I prefer Bush and Cheney to Kerry because of issues, but again, Kerry was a patriot. He volunteered every step of the way. There was no drafting, there was volunteering at a time when he could have gotten out of it.

Kerry was a decorated Viet Vet. He claimed to have thrown his decorations back at the gov't over the White House fence during one protest.
He has them on his wall now. He explained that he had only pretended to throw the real ones....that he had used borrowed fakes for the wall-throwing event.
Does service in Vietnam give you the right to speak? Yes.
Does it give you the right to declare the war "wrong" and the true patriots to be the "protesters?"
Not at all. The true patriots were the troops on the ground giving their service, their lives, their sacred honor.

I dunno. That would be news to me. He should mention it more, if you're right. He really should let people know, especially since that was the last time he was in a leadership position, instead of just jawing in congress.

He deserves respect for that, as do all legitimate veterans.
On everything else, it should be open season on him however..

I don't think he'd dare go to Parris Island for this kinda crap.
Charleston and a good bit of the Lowcountry may be Dem, but the conservatives upstate far outnumber them.
