I wonder why he thinks he can get to the Right of Bush on this issue? The Vichycons may just yet discover their present bedfellows are not so loyal afterall. Wonder if it will be too late?

"If I were him, I'd veer away from the Middle East debate until he's forced into it," bwahahaha! It seems that is just about all he talks about.

Usually the Lefties vent about Israel, and now apologizing for Saudi. I've seen this convergence more and more. I think it has to do with reflexive anti-Americanism, and tacit acknowledgment that Saudi is about as anti-American as they come, hence a natural ally. I also expect NGO and other front orgs, maybe the same getting money from France and Iraq during the "anti-war" demos might be sucking up to a new client - Saudi.
Anti-Americanism, with mini-rants about Israel may become the new benchmark of reflexive lefty identity politics expressed in foreign policy mythologies.

A fashionably rabid anti-Jew, pro-"Palestinian" position is, sadly,
de rigeur for the rank and file cattle of the political left nowadays -- the phone workers and the doorbell ringers and the envelope stuffers.
Dean doesn't have much room to scurry here, as the article makes clear.
This is only going to become increasingly problematical for him, troop loyalty-wise, as the primaries unfold.
The only significant difference between the German party loyalist of the late '30s and the Democratic Party activist of today, ultimately, is a slightly better album collection.

Internet cash is a good way to be bought by foreign interests, a la Clinton, who used the more prosaic method of turning the White House into the Best Little Whorehouse in Washington rather than using Dean's more prosaic approach.
Somehow the gushing statement that he's gained "tens of thousands" of unhappy Democrat and Republican supporters practically overnight seems a BIT, well, SPUN.
