AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Five-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong and his wife have separated and will divorce.Armstrong and his wife, Kristin, separated two weeks ago, soon after moving back to Austin from Girona, Spain. The couple is currently working on reaching a divorce settlement, while maintaining separate homes in Austin.
"The craziest thing is, we're closer now and better friends than ever before," Lance Armstrong said the Austin American-Statesman in Thursday's editions. "We're truly committed to maintaining a good relationship, but not a marriage."
Lance Armstrong overcame cancer on his way to five Tour wins. When he won his fifth straight Tour in July he tied the record held by Spain's Miguel Indurain.
"They tried, over the whole summer period, to reconcile," Jogi Muller, a spokesman for Armstrong's U.S. Postal Service team, told The Associated Press. "But somehow, now in the month after the Tour, it just didn't work out. They tried probably for the children, for themselves."
Muller said that the couple had originally planned to stay in Europe through mid-September, but decided to return home early.
The couple, who have been married for five years and have three children, announced in February that they had been separated for a month. They later reconciled.
I did not assume, I only posted it as a probable scenario. Never was my intention to defame Lance Armstrong.
Do you have any sources to back your claim?
Again I made no assumptions or claims. I just pointed out a probability. Other than the link I posted, (Here is another in case you didn't believe that one: Bike Ride)which states that extended bicycle riding is linked to erectile dysfunction, I have two other things I have based this probability on.
First, (as I posted in my original post) Lance had testicular cancer. I can find nowhere what type of procedure/s was used to treat him. There are several methods and some of them are quite radical and can leave one impotent.
The second is based not on my personal experience, but that of my cousins. He is an avid bicyclist. Though he does not participate in any races, he rides almost every day. He totals more than 130 miles a week. He loves it and it is his obsession. He suffered ED and the doctors attributed it to his excessive bicycling. Against all their advice he would do nothing that would interfere with his riding. He would not even do something so simple as put a wider saddle with more padding on his bike. He chose his bike over his sex life. Needless to say he is now divorced. (But he and his wife are the best of friends.)
If you are implying that the Star is "gossip" point taken.
I am sorry for being so condescending in my reply to you. I should not have done that. When I first read your post I thought I might be wrong and researched trying to find any girlfriend or woman he may have dated. I spent nearly an hour on this because there are so many interviews with Lance before he was married, in which he refers to his wife as his girlfriend. I was very disappointed to find only the article from the Star that confirmed this. Still that is no excuse for my post.
Again, I apologize for the tone of my post. I was wrong. Please forgive me.
Same here.
Just an FYI... Lance talks about the cross he wears in his book. He wears it not as a symbol of his Christianty (which he isn't), but rather as a symbol of cancer sufferers' kinship. He got two crosses and gave one to friend's wife who was terminal. He said that he'd never take it off. He won't.
