This is true, we don't know how committed Lance was to all of this. If he wasn't willing to make the effort, then any attempts by Kristen probably were unsuccessful.

I have not seen a non-tabloid reference to the alleged cheating by Lance, so I prefer not to simply assume it happened.

Early in their marriage Kristen embraced living part of the year in Europe. She claimed to enjoy it, even after their son arrived. It seems like a lot of issues arose when the twins arrived and she suddenly had 3 kids to care for with a husband who was off riding an awful lot.

Lance is a very wealthy man. Kristen will not want for money, at least as long as he's racing. Even when he retires, he should make good money as a team director or some similar position.

We'll probably never know exactly what precipitated this, particularly since they seemed quite devoted to each other and their kids. It's not really our business to know...it's sad that their marriage is over now.

"I just like how everyone on this thread is a marriage expert, and has such great knowledge of the Armstrong's relationship."

I had an ex-boss who used to insist that he could tell you everything you needed to know about women. Afterall, he'd been married three times!

Tho Lance has mellowed significantly since his bout w/ cancer, he's still got a lot of the arrogant a**hole that made him one of the most unpopular riders prior to 1996.

I can't imagine that he's not a biatch to live with still.

Speaking as a woman, I thought Kristin looked terrific after Lance won the Tour this year. Not just weight-wise, but she sparkled.

I don't claim to be either a marriage expert or an expert of Armstrong's marriage in particular. I'm just commenting on what Armstron himself said, "We're good friends..." If someone makes a public statement, I don't think it's inappropriate to voice an opinion about that statement.

A majority of super successful men (and almost as many women) have a difficult time maintaining fidelity or simply sticking to a long term marriage.

True -- but that's what makes them "attractive" in the first place. They are the high status male, sought after by all. It is very competitive.

Had he been less high status, he would have less opportunities to "cheat", but he'd also be less attractive in the mental calculus of women.

Women are naturally drawn to the men who are most difficult to hold on to.

I know this isn't your story, but I just gotta say...

The necessity of pre-marriage counseling (the kind to repair issues) is nature's way of saying "Don't get married to that person".

The last couple I know who married in spite of the above, well, let's just say my hangover lasted longer than the nuptials.

Children never ever get over it and it gets passed on.

Exactly. And that's what happened to Lance as a 2 year old child too.

The "DNA donor", as he calls his biological father, did the same thing to Lance and his mom as Lance is doing to his own children. A hard cycle to break (no pun intended actually...).

they were only married for five years? please... how hard could they have tried to make their marriage work when they've been married such a short amount of time?

Yes.

But aggressive competitive men are likewise more likely to cheat in the firstplace. It's a complimentary situation.

Competitiveness and drive in business often transfers to sexual conquests as well.

And you are correct, men withy more money have more "options".

It takes a lot of character for a driven ambitious man to honour his wife as he should.

I know of several couples who credit "elective" premarital counselling with making them a stronger couple after the vows. Prolly depends on your motivations for going in the first place.

sometimes the child remembers so well the split and the estrangement from usually daddy that they will work overtime not to repeat that.

maybe Lance has a need to be recognized by Daddy and doesn't even know it.

He said: 'Kik, I've been a jerk. I need you all. I can't be a champion without you.

So, it's all about Lance and fame isn't it.

How is it that people can get divorced and sudddenly they are 'best friends'?

I think he should issue refunds to all the people who bought his book.

He tried -- she quit!?

Dumb broad has no concept of the value of a covenant before God. Pretty typical of modern American wymyn.

Look at #26 and let's see if you have the same attitude.

maybe Lance has a need to be recognized by Daddy and doesn't even know it.

After reading his autobiography, he's got a whole lot of resentment built up against that man, and also the stepfather who mistreated his mother for years. So it surprises me that he didn't work at his marriage for his own children's sake.

Probably if the father had tried years ago to at least keep in touch with Lance, things might have gone a different direction, but the man was a complete unknown factor in Lance's life. Sad all around.

I guess I don't get it.....he has the will & drive to overcome cancer....win races that take not only skill, but perseverance and endurance and planning....

Because he loves himself...

...but fail to put the same effort & drive into saving his marriage.....!

...more than his family.
