How in the hell can the US dictate to Israel that they shouldn't take out it's most vile enemy all the while dispatching 150,000 of our troops to hunt and kill Saddam Hussein?

How in the hell can the US dictate to Israel They didn't dictate .. they asked Israel to consider .. there is a difference
The U.S. administration asked Israel to consider its steps carefully to make sure they do not damage "the overall picture."

The United States has told Israel it expects "no surprises" regarding Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat following the resignation of Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas on Saturday. It all depends on what is expected (I, for one, wouldn't be surprised if Israel finally does some AraRAT extermination).

What if Sharon defies the President? What, pray tell, do you think he will do? My guess is nothing.

Frankly, this sounds pretty mild to me, especially considering that it comes from Ha'aretz, which is so far to the left it makes the New York Times look like the National Review.
The United States has told Israel it expects "no surprises" regarding Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat...
The Israelis are going to keep on playing with Yassir's brain, right up until they splatter it all over Ramallah. Anyone surprised?
"At this critical moment, it is important that all parties consider carefully the consequences of their actions," the statement added.
The Israelis are already doing this. That's why they tried to splash Yassin the Assassin.
The U.S. said it expected Israel to uphold the understanding that any Israeli move "to take care of" Arafat was taken only after consultation between Jerusalem and Washington.
"Shalom, George."
"Howdy, Arik. What's up?"
"We're going boil Arafat alive in a tub of bacon fat."
"Have fun."

I propose they have a trial, let the families of the thousands killed by Arafat and his henchmen testify, and then expel the father of modern terrorism--from this life via the rope.
And don't let it be a long fall through the trapdoor...give him some time to consider his deeds and his destination.

... because there is something EVIL going on in Washington DC.
Only a FOOL could not see your point of comparison as reasonable...
We are headed for an act that renders much of the middle east desolation... and a worldwide war against Israel...
Somewhere in the turn of biblical events... the United States might turn against Israel too... and this would be part of it. If Israel took out arafat... killing MOST of the palestinian people, and simultaneously took out Iran's nuclear forces and most of her military.. and moved on Syria with (allegedly Iraq's leftover wmds) wiping them out... the world would rush in to the void to control the middle east for it's oil wealth... and Israel would be damned by the whole planet. Including us.
I think we are headed towards something very cataclysmic of that scale in months, not years perhaps...

Does anyone have a price on Arafat's head? Maybe some Jewish groups offer a reward? Seriously, someone needs to knock this a$$hole off. I don't care who.

The US is right to tell Israel that "Arafat should not be killed". But they ought add the clause: "unless there is another Israeli killed in a suicide bombing".

Well, to put it in a nutshell, if the lid blows off the kettle in the Holy Land and a general war breaks out all over the middle east over it, we don't have the forces available, them being occupied quelling Iraq and rooting out the Taliban remnants, to deal with it, or with the certain cut-off of oil supplies.
It's not that we wouldn't like to see them take him out in a perfect world, it's just that we have no way to deal with the worst outcomes that could result from Israel doing it.

Exactly. Any peace initiative in the Middle East is pointless as long as the Chief Terrorist is allowed to remain around. We won't tolerate Osama Bin Laden being in good health; who are we to dictate to the people of Israel one world's most notorious terrorists deserves immunity? I think our government has a double standard in the War On Terrorism.

Israel, Just Do It! And GW, quit telling us Islam is a religion of peace. Instead secure our borders. As we all know, there will be no peace in the middle east until one side wipes out the other. Let the games begin.

How in the hell can the US dictate to Israel that they shouldn't take out it's most vile enemy all the while dispatching 150,000 of our troops to hunt and kill Saddam Hussein? Israel is, unfortunately for them, a vassal state of the USA. Without the USA they couldn not survive economically or militarily. Sad for them, to be at the beck and call of the passifist US State Department.
To: Brian S
This is the State Department talking - not Bush. Bush has always said that Israel has a right to defend itself. Don't confuse the two attitudes .. they are different!
