There goes Bill's presidential ambitions.

It is an epidemic.
Prayers for the family, especially the kids.

Yep... I heard a lot of talk about Owens in terms of him being a future Presidential candidate. That's out the window now. Of course, Regan was divorced wasn't he?

Its not another woman. His wife would have filed for a divorce if there had been one. The story doesn't say either partner committed infidelity. Its just that sometimes people grow apart and they have to figure out where their marriage is going and how they can make a reconciliation work. Divorce obviously should be a last resort. Sometimes people need a break from each other and nothing more should be read into it at this time. Our thoughts are with Governor Owens and his wife Frances and his family.

Of course, Regan was divorced wasn't he? Yes, but Reagan was still a Democrat activist labor union leader at the time of that divorce, so it doesn't count against him! :-) :-)
Once he wised up and became a Republican, he stuck with one woman for the rest of his life.
Of course, being a Democrat shouldn't get you off the hook for bad behavior any more than being drunk or doped up at the time of a crime should get you off. I'm just saying that being drunk at the time, or stoned out of your mind at the time, or being a Democrat at the time makes your bad behavior more "understandable".
I mean, hey - you wouldn't expect a quadriplegic to stand up from his wheelchair and walk, would you? So then, likewise, why would you ever expect a Democrat to behave properly?

Owens isn't getting a divorce, its just seperation. Now we can all sit on the outside looking in an judge.
I have always heard that this guy is ultra career minded. He has a PAC in Washington right now, presumably to set up his 08 bid. He also chaired the GOP Gov's Conference, and was an officer with the National Governor's Association.
But who knows whats going on, regardless, its 5 years before the 08 season - and Owens has a stellar conservative record in Colorado. To throw it out now because of marital problems would be asinine.
To: GraniteStateConservative
Am I a crass, politically mercenary bastard if my initial reaction is "Crap, I saw him as a VP or other national GOP rising star," instead of sympathy for him and his family?

Yes, but Owens would have to be happily married to someone by the time he ran. Bob Dole was divorced, too, but long-time married to Elizabeth (who'd never been married). As an aside, too much time on his career was the reason Bob Dole's first wife wanted a divorce.

Oh come on - it's 5 years before the 08 election.
Lot's of marriages end in divorce, why should this screw up his Presidential ambitions?

My thoughts and prayers are with them. It's a hard lifestyle on families.

That was the previous governor of Colorado - Roy Romer

I had the same reaction. Divorce didn't seem to hurt Giuliani's image among voters.
