If you grew up in the Barrio, you wold recognize the latino-street accent. But as a child, his parents would NOT let him speak spanish at home, so he speaks colloquial, un-accented (if at times ungrammatical) English (btw, he has been AGAINST English-only in schools, even though that very philosophy has put him where he is -- now he wants to have as many illiterates as possible to keep oppressed under his heel) .
