Would have been nice see see how much that was true of Arnold's supporters if he pulled out of the race.

Bustamante would get half of his numbers... I wonder why.

Absentee ballots have been mailed. McClintock may drop out too late to affect those voting absentee which are expected to be a third of the total ballots cast. McClintock's name will be mud if he elects Cruz.

"Screw RINOs. If this place is going to go to hell, then let's get it over with. That's why I would support Bustamante if McClintock were to exit the race."... AMBROSE.

If you care about the GOP in CA, you would support "N-word"s camp over (R)nold were Tom to quit. There's nothing "shocking" about this. You didn't "bust" ambrose, he's thinking long term. You should try it.

Luckily Tom won't quit so its a mute point.

If they don't leave this race pronto, I know I won't forget and will always work against those two in any future campaign.

Like your statement means anything. You've a primary detractor the whole time (with the insulting McNader comments)...

"... I think we might be better off if Cruz gets elected and shows his colors..."

Whoa. Cajun girl is right. I have been advocating the same for months on FR. Any Republican elected will have to deal with the real budget problems, next year. And with a Republican at the helm, then the SF and LA papers will pillory him for the budget problems, not the Democrats in the legislature. When the tens of thousands of state employees are laid off, it will be the Governor who makes the decision and the Governor who becomes the most hated man between Oregon and the Mexican border.

I have long advocated the recall of Davis, so that no other Democrat ever dares to lie to us again. And I have advocated the election of Bustamante so that the Democrats alone will have to deal with the horrible budget problems that will be coming next year. The 2004 budget was a piece of cake, and typical sleight of hand fixed that one. The 2005 budget will ruin political careers. Let everyone be angry at Cruz in July, August, and September 2004. The Democrats made their bed. Let them lie in it, alone, for another year. Then Republicans will take over the State Assembly and State Senate.

I wonder if bustamante will invite Tom and those who voted for him to his election celebration.

They'd deserve an invitation for their help in getting him there.

But they have "principles"!

How principled would it be getting a racist mexican elected to the governor's office?

Zero.

Bustamante Leads Schwarzenegger in Polls

Monday , September 08, 2003
By Major Garrett

LOS ANGELES — New statewide poll numbers show Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante width=5>

The new Field Poll (search) numbers will be released Tuesday in newspapers across the state.

According to Republican and Democratic sources, the poll shows Bustamante leading Schwarzenegger 30 percent to 25 percent with state Sen. Tom McClintock (search) at 13 percent and Peter Ueberroth (search) at 7 percent.

The poll also shows 55 percent of Californians support recalling Democratic Gov. Gray Davis (search) with 40 percent opposing it.

Strategists with both parties say the Field Poll numbers closely track internal polling done for the last week.

Republican strategist Kevin Spillane said the cumulative GOP numbers total 45 percent which he said indicated widespread discontent with Davis and the Democrats.

Nearly 45 percent of the state's 15 million registered voters are Democrats, compared to 35 percent registered Republicans.

Even so, Bustamante polled only 30 percent, suggesting the Lieutenant Governor is having a hard time consolidating the Democratic base.

The Field Poll suggests Republicans are over-performing, with cumulative GOP support at 45 percent compared to 35 percent registered GOP voters. Democrats are under-performing, with Bustamante's 30 percent standing at 14 percent below party registration numbers.

The Field Poll asked voters whom they would support if McClintock dropped out of the race and found that Schwarzenegger was ahead of Bustamante 33 percent to 31 percent.

Bustamante's lead in the Field Poll is smaller than that found in the widely publicized Los Angeles Times poll, which showed him with 35 percent compared to Schwarzenegger's 22 percent. That poll also said only 50 percent of Californians supported recalling Davis while 45 percent opposed it.

The last Field Poll, taken in mid August, showed Bustamante leading Schwarzenegger 25 percent to 22 percent. It also showed 58 percent of Californians supported recalling Davis with 37 opposed to it.

"The poll shows we're making progress," Davis spokesman Gabriel Sanchez told Fox. "We're just beginning with our campaign and we're already making progress."

Sanchez said the governor gained six points from the last Field Poll, pointing to a three-point drop in support for the recall and a three-point gain in opposition to it. He said the governor's anti-recall TV campaign wasn't even a week old and had only run spots in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Monterey.

"Some people foolishly wrote us off," Sanchez said.

Please don't say that. If Davis skates then Democrats will be emboldened to lie to us forever. He must go. The Democrats will never lie again if he is recalled less than a year after his election.

With the McClintock, Ueberroths, the "cheat factor", the 11th hour surprises, etc, we need all of the help we can get to defeat them. With 3 Republicans in there, in a primarily Dem state, it doesn't look good.

Looks like CRUZ is a lUCKY guy, there is no way republican wins if MCLINTOCK stays in the race...... SAY HELLO TO GOV CRUZ .....GOV of CAMEXICO

You're right! A vote for McClintick is a vote for Cruz.

Sigh. It's too bad that the only main difference between Arnold and Cruz is their stance on taxes.

Yes, a vote for berman or McC is a show of passive support for the Democrats.

In the upside-down-world of California, this passes for logic.

Well, thank you! Let the dems take the heat, they cannot do the job. It will get clearer and clearer. When they next lose, it will be like the Berlin Wall coming down. It will be a moment to remember. And Pubs will make out like bandits. Thiings will get worse before they get better. But I do wonder, and maybe a californian, can tell me,,how long and how draconian will the actions to be taken be, for this state to be back in decent shape? I wonder if a pub can do it. Sort of like lancing a boil, you don't wanta do it too early or things are really a mess. You gotta wait till it is ready to pop. Is California there yet? If it is, I would expect the pubs to be polling at 80 % collectively. And I will not jump in the lake or endure insults.

Brilliant strategy, figuring that 3 Republicans can beat one democrat in California.

This thing is a free-for-all... The reality is that there are more than 15 Democrats running. The media and DNC are just pushing one of them.

Is that all you have to say? While pubs are killing off each other, that is all you have to say? Your state is going to the dogs and pubs are helping,,I wonder, do they really really want it. And should they reallly really want to take what is going to come down there.
