They don't want to win elections. If they did, they wouldn't have anything to complain about. They would just be part of the unwashed masses.

You may be right. I think they really want an oligarchy. Maybe bring back big poll taxes. Maybe only let people who qualify vote, qualify by having the right views. The big part of this country is smack in the middle and rather than work with that, they would lose. Anybody who cannot see that to let Cruz win is suicidal is nuts.

I think Ronald Reagan wouldn't be conservative enough for some of this crowd - he used to be a Democrat (horrors!), he was a union member, he actually RAISED TAXES. Of course, McClintock is just the right guy for them, hasn't changed a view in at least 20 years (so he says), goes right down the party line, is too proud to compromise for votes. Yep, Ol' Ron, just another RINO. ;)

"Sometimes I have a big urge to share all of my "liberal ideas". At times I have and have made good friends here. But the damn flames just discourage it. I will be willing to be this is a more diverse forum that the 'true conservatives' could imagine. They don't know it, but they are surrounded by people who have views that might cause them to go pale."

Let it all out, sweety. Tell us how you really "feel".

Arnold has ALSO said in one interview that allowing illegals is an affront to people who came here legally.

Source? Link?

I do believe I heard something along those lines with regard to the driver's license issue.

All of that is moot, however, if the Illegals are legalized anyway. Then they'll get their driver's licenses.

Don't forget that in 1968, then Governor Reagan passed an abortion bill in California.

Off with his head!

I hate the term RINO. I just hate it. And "slippery slope",,that is a favored term that just is a metaphor for them. They are surrounded by slippery slopes, must be a bitch getting through life.

Really, well you wouldn't know it by the incredible behavior of throwing away powerful votes down a McHole to get Bustamante elected.

By the way, if you are planning to throw the vote down the McClintock hole, are you up to speed on Bustamante's views since you would be passively voting for him?

Bottom line, a sabotaging of the Republican front runner that gets radical Democrats elected doesn't make you a brilliant conservative in any forum I've ever heard of.

Don't expect to be taking bows on any conservative forum if Bustamante wins with your views.

In fact I've listened very, very closely. What I haven't heard are a promise not to raise taxes, a promise to repeal family leave, and any specifics whatsoever on budget cuts.

He avoids all questions about specific issues any chance he gets, and he doesn't want to debate unless he has the questions in advance. He sold out to the teachers' union on education funding (somehow he's not going to touch 46% of the budget, yet he expects to balance it?), and he is bad on every social issue.

The fact that he says a few vague things that sound just slightly conservative does not impress me at all.

You can say something other than "this is a conservative forum". My dear, you are making progress. And unveiliing your profoundly patronizing stance toward women.

Reuters has this piece: "What he doesn't understand is that people like myself waited 15 years to get citizenship," Schwarzenegger, who came to the United States from Austria in the 1960s, said. "There are people who have been waiting 20 years. I find it unfair to all of a sudden push the whole thing with undocumented immigrants and say they should immediately get citizenship."

The film star told the John and Ken show on Los Angeles radio station KFI-AM 640 in a telephone interview that he wanted stricter controls and beefed-up patrols on the U.S. border with Mexico. He said he was also against legislation, currently being debated in Sacramento, that would give California drivers licenses to illegal immigrants -- a bill that Davis has said he would sign and Bustamante supports.

This is what I said earlier. Stricter controls on illegal immigration, and (rightly) pointing out that illegal immigration is unfair to those who are here legally. Why is this being ignored by you?

I am serious. The main difference I see between Busty and Arnold is that when Arnold goes to raise taxes, the Republicans in the legislature will cooperate.

If Arnold pulled out, you'd see as much boost to Bustamante's numbers as to McClintock's. The Independents in California are too far to the left (socially) to swallow McClintock. The Democrats that Arnold is picking up will go back home. McClintock's best chance to gain would be the undecideds, which are still there in numbers.

I said "might" and it was for discussion. Noone here will answer me when I ask if a pub can survive what it is going to take to turn your state around. It will be ugly. It will be long. And a guy upthread said it better than I could. The person who is governor next may be doomed along with his political party. What is it going to take and for how long and at what price? Nobody answers.

California needs a Governor who can say no to the repeated power and money grabs by special interest groups. I've heard people complain that Schwarzenegger has taken education off the table, and then quote 60 percent of the budget goes to education. It's less than 50 percent. But are businesses leaving California in droves because we're spending money on kids? Nope.

They're leaving California because of idiot requirements like being unable to fire someone because they show up to work as a cross dresser. They're leaving because worker's comp insurance makes adding any employee twice as expensive on average than any other state in the US. They're leaving because of enviromental grabs, freeways being overcrowded, and housing costs that make it too expensive for their employees to live on a single salary.

Arnold doesn't doom the Republician party if he fails. He's an outsider. If he succeeds, he'll bring a lot of glory to the Republican party. How can he succeed? Speeches. Going to the people and telling them to annoy their state representives and demand that they actually do their job.

When the budget was being held up in Sacramento, the Democrats were exposed chortling about how this was going to help them in future elections, and how they should hold up the budget longer. If someone like Schwarzenegger told the people what was going on, the voter outrage would be enormous. Instead, it was played down by the media, a little square in the LA Times.

There is no long term downside to a Schwarzenegger governorship. With McClintock, the Dems can just dig in their heels and virtually assure themselves of destroying the CALGOP. With Bustamante, they can just say 'whoops' and point to how hard they fought him in the state assembly and senate. With Davis, they can point to how the people of California validated Davis when the Democrats were unsure of him.

There's no win for the Republicans if anyone other than Schwarzenegger is elected, and there's no loss for Democrats if anyone other than Schwarzenegger wins.

After reading these threads, it's pretty obvious why the California GOP is in their current mess. In the long-term, principles rather than political expediency are required for a party to prosper; these folks appear to avoid discussion of principles at all costs.

I've also heard him say, this wkd, that he opposes Prop 54. I keep looking, but I can't find any issues I agree with Arnold on. I can vote for someone who is not "ideologically pure," but what about someone who opposes everything I believe in?
