The fact that he was at least startled into moving after being shouted at is positive, I suppose, but it's hard to imagine that he could ever recover enough to be anything more than severely disabled. He'll surely never recover enough to resume duties as governor.
I suppose this is good news for his family, but I don't think I'd want to survive a stroke of this magnitude. Quality of life is important to me.
Time will tell. My 70-year old mother had a stroke which appeared quite disabling for the first few days. However, as the brain swelling subsided, much of the dexterity came back and the speech greatly improved. After a couple of weeks she was back to 90% and after physical therapy for a couple of months she was back to 95%.
The Governor's stroke sounds much more serious, but one can not tell from the first few days how much permanent damage there will be.
