[history]
The ABC News poll found that one-third of Americans now think the religion encourages violence against non-Muslims. That is double the number of people who felt that way 20 months ago.
Four months after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, 14 percent believed mainstream Islam encourages violence. That figure is now at 34 percent.

Yeah, after Jordan's government voted DOWN a proposal to inflict "harsher punishment" for "honor killing" female relatives.
Islam has a LOOOOONG way to go just to make it into the 17th century.

All I can say is that it's about damned time. Sensible immagration policies NOW! Effective and rational policing of the borders NOW!
Do not let these people overrun this county like they've done in other parts of the world. Those who refuse to learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat the same mistakes.
Take a tour of western Europe........

Actually, they're allowed to decieve to defeat their infidel enemies, because infidels follow Satan, and Satan lies to the infidels, so they're supposed to do what Satan does. Doesn't that make them like, well, er...Satan?

I think the difference is that on 911 many Americans hadn't given much thought to the "religion" of Islam. After the attacks, people started educating themselves and that has made the difference.

How can anybody who is "familiar" with Islam take a positive view of it, especially if you are not a Muslim. I guess that depends on what they mean by that statement. If they are familiar with it because they are Muslim that is one thing. If by saying they are familiar with it by way of the media propaganda they have heard, that is quite another.

"Doesn't that make them like, well, er...Satan?"That was the impression I got...that they were being advised to act like Satan to the infidels.

AMEN.... I have studied Islam somewhat, and I would HARDLY call it a "religion of peace". Of course, one could contend that Christianity is a "warrior religion", but if you look at it, Jesus didn't go telling His followers to deceive, cheat, and to spread the faith by the sword if necessary. In fact, Jesus basically said, "Love everyone, even your enemies... leave the vengeance to the Lord...."
Frankly, I think that India and East Africa could use a new parking lot.... a self-lighting, glass-paved parking lot...

;Americans' suspicion of Islam has grown sharply over the
;last year and a half and fewer than half now call it a
;peaceful religion, a poll says.
FEWER THAN HALF ?!
Good god the education system is worse than I thought.
Apparently a large part of the populace thinks that blowing stuff up is peace. So maybe 1/2 of the "Peace" movement wants stuff blown up they just are mixed up on the meaning of the words..........

You have to remember that in polls like this a lot of people feel pressured to avoid seeming "intolerant". So they say PC things that they don't really believe.
We don't know what the real figure is but we can bet that well over half of Americans have an intensely negative image of Islam.
