William & Mary officials investigate charge of sexual assault

WILLIAMSBURG -- A 16-year-old Middle Peninsula girl says a College of William and Mary student raped her at a fraternity party Saturday night.

While the city prosecutor is preparing to take the case to a grand jury, the college's president has asked for an internal review of social functions and alcohol on the campus. [snip]

...Campus police were notified about the incident early Sunday, when they were called to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester, where the girl had gone for treatment, according to a police officer's sworn statement.

The statement says the girl told police she attended a party at Lambda Chi Alpha on Saturday night, where she danced with a student and was then invited upstairs for a drink by a female friend of her dance partner.

After drinking a shot of rum, she accepted an invitation to go to the male student's room, the girl told police. As soon as they arrived, he closed the door, pushed her onto a couch, tried to kiss her and started yanking at her clothing.

Although she repeatedly said "no" and was crying, he held her down, put a condom on and had sex with her, the statement says. It says the girl said she continued to struggle and tried to get away.

At some point, he made a comment that the condom had broken, the warrant says. She yelled, "stop," and he stopped and sat up, giving her an opportunity to get away. She dressed quickly and ran, the statement says...

This sounds like another fake 'rape,' like the ones at the Air Force Academy. An immature young woman goes to a frat, gets drunk, and ends up in an immature young man's room -- where she has sex. Then --oh my!-- she's shocked, shocked.

What's going on with William & Mary? Last week it was the story about a student who was shut out of a course because she was white. Now this.

From the article, it looks like the college felt pressured (by feminists?) to turn this over for state prosecution, whereas in an earlier era it would've been dealt with privately.

My son has been considering applying to W & M, but now I'm not sure he should. It sounded like a great school until last week. Anyone here an alum, or know what's going on? Have they gone overboard with P.C.?

I wonder if the girls parents were keeping any kind of tabs on her to prevent her from going to college frat party when she was only 16. I wonder if she told people at the party that she was only 16. I wonder if she knew what was implied when she was invited to go to the guy's room.

It seems improbable that he was able to restrain her while putting on a prophylactic, and yet unable to restrain her later while she got up, put on her clothes and then left.

Hmmm. It seems that she went hunting and underestimated the kill. Some parents should teach their children (16 years old) what to expect when attending a frat party. She is lucky if she does not show up on the internet.

I'm an alum. It used to be a very conservative and highly rigorous school academically speaking. I wouldn't condem the school based on this one instance although it does sound suspicious. I didn't hear about the student being shut out of the course because of her race. It wouldn't suprise me though. Even if the student body is conservative the professors are probably still socialists.

Back when I was in school I use to sit on her chest backwards while pinning her arms to her sides with my legs. This left both my hands free to install the condom. The tricky part was getting up and turning around. :)

The story as written doesn't add up, except for the part about Lambda Chi ... (I'm a Sigma Chi myself).

Sounds like she got in over her head, but at the same time, this shows why "dude, let's get wasted and pick up some hot chix at the kegger" isn't the smartest idea in the world. Ah well, it ain't like you think with the right head in college anyway, huh?

W&M is a very solid academic school, and it's in one of the most historic settings around in Williamsburg. As long as he doesn't mind being surrounded by marshland and tourists, your son should enjoy it there. :)

This is probably rush week at te frats at W&M. She went to a frat party, and I believe the LEGAL drinking age on capmus is, ahem, 21 except for near beer (it's been over a quarter century since I was a student there).

"What did she expect?" is not a fair question, cuz it leads to 'she got what she deserved/came for'. Kinda like letting your kids go to Cancun for Spring Break.

When I was there, the "townies" always came to our parties, especially the off-campus ones. Not sure if Lambda Chi is on campus anymore. Besides the only good looking women at William and Mary were from off campus. (old W&M joke)

My daughter is only 10. At this age she has good judgement. I hope it does not deteriorate too much as she approaches independence.

Whether this was consentual or not, one thing is for sure:

LXA will no doubt have its W&M charter pulled and there will be an increased volume in the hue and cry to abolish Fraternities from all institutions of higher learning.

All it takes is a real or manufactured incident. It is a two-front strategy on the part of arch feminists and their idological bretheren.

First, seek to abolish fraternities that will not admit all sexes ( I say "all" as the feminists believe that there are male, female and "other").

See which Colleges and Universities will go along with your scheme and for those who need a bit of urging, find some incident that can be tangentially or directly pinned on a particular fraternity and campaign to have them all removed.

It has already succeeded on some campuses: Williams College - 1960 Colby College - 1983 Trinity College - 1992 Wesleyan College - 1992 University of Maine - 1996 Middlebury College - 1999 Bowdoin College - 2000 Dartmouth - 2001 Alfred University - 2002 Santa Clara University - 2003

Of the above listed (which is not a complete list), Middlebury, Wesleyan, Dartmouth and Trinity banned Fraternities when they passed edicts that all social organizations be Co-Ed or be banned. It worked for sports programs and it will eventually lead to erasing all Greek-Letter societies from the nation's schools....it will take time (and there are some here on FR that wholehartedly approve and will cheer when it comes to pass based on some posts I have seen in the past).

Disclaimer: YES, I was/am a "Brother" and the chapter of my fraternity had its charter pulled by the school...not for alcohol, drugs, rape, fighting, or anything like that. It was for one pledge streaking. Fitting punishment...right?
