What good is an "ombudsman", anyway, when their response to a reader questioning the paper's coverage (or non-coverage) of the Jesse Dirkhising incident is to accuse the reader of being "a bigot like David Duke"? How is that "representing the reader"? But it is how the sainted Ms. Geneva Overholser of the Post once responded to me...

At the height of the Clinton administration attacks on the NRA , Geneva Overholser wrote a column entitled "Charlton Heston, Meet Joe Camel". Nah, she's not a liberal Democrat. ;-)

In other words, the noted ombudsman, Geneva Overholser, is not employed by the Post "to represent the reader". Instead, she has, in fact, been contracted "to help defend the liberal agenda".

Helluva job description for a member of the oh-so-objective press, huh?
