Nothing to weaken it in its path; and the Gulf Stream may just strengthen it.

Look at this:

There have only been two Cat 5 storms to hit the USA, the Labor Day Storm of 1935 (FL Keys) and Camille. This one isn't as big as Camille (or as strong), but Camille also hit a relative unpopulated area. This bad girl is aiming now for some big cities.... imagine with a strong storm surge going up Chesapeake Bay... wouldn't want to be on US 13 at that time.

A decent animation of 'our story so far':

Also good:

The scary part of some of the storm tracks is that it appears it will not hit and go inland but just slide up the coast and rip it apart over multiple states.. I really hope this will not happen, but it could literally be the hurricane of the century. It does have that potential.

Keeping my fingers crossed that it will dissipate and/or decide to swirl out up north off the coast. Not looking good though.

It's not turning north SHARP enough, IMO.

Either it catches land there, or it's heading straight to DC.

Get out of Israel's way Bush, Arafat needs to die ASAP. This is no time to support Palis.

Does anyone in the Southeast remember Hurricane Hugo. It was the biggest disaster in American history until Andrew hit South Florida 3 years later. I had two friends who lost fathers in Hugo.

That means that people need to prepare their property as best they can, and then evacuate. There are no heroes who ride out a direct hit from a storm of this magnitude. Just fools.

You're right. I live in VA Beach and if this storm is still on it's current track come Wednesday night, I'm bugging out.

Andrew was later determined to be Category 5 when it hit Florida.

Also, lately Wilmington NC has been Ground Zero for hurricanes; Bertha and Fran in 1996, Bonnie in 1998, and most recently, FLoyd in 1999.

Yes!!

From this site:

http://www.wrel.com/hurricane.htm

It has some really different graphics, but I can't vouch for their accuracy!

Neets, the graphic has changed within the last two hours!

You're not out of the woods on this. Tomorrow's track may be a couple hundred miles different from today's forecast.

That's got to be the worst-case scenario, right there. It rolls across the Outer Banks and the coastal areas around Elizabeth City, then smacks head-on into Tidewater Virginia, tracks up the Bay hitting both the Delmarva and the Northern Neck/Middle Peninsula, and carries on into DC and Baltimore. Yikes.

I don't mean to sounds so dumb on the subject H...I am more in tune with nor'easters.

Although we did have a small tornado touch down last month 2 weeks before the big Blackout.

I am taking the screwy North East weather situation quite seriously since our bad snowy and cold winter last year.
