In Our Opinion: Resolve Has Degenerated Into Hysteria

The second anniversary of 9/11 slipped by with the anticipated moments of grief and solemnity.

But what is most pronounced and alarming is how our mourning and resolve have degenerated into hysteria, particularly in the media and exemplified by the nine Democrats running for president.

In the weeks after the terrorist attacks, the nation found its resolve and resoluteness. Partisanship dissolved, though we knew that would be temporary. What's so shocking is the rabidness of the new partisanship.

This anniversary passed with the nation distressed by the media's out-of-perspective fixation on body counts and bogus Vietnam analogies. The Democrats have only exacerbated the panic by auditioning for the party's role as the most delirious Bush-hater.

Profiles in courage? Hardly. Not even a profile in statesmanship.

Lost within the smoke is the reality President Bush spelled out in his last speech to the nation. We are at war against terrorism with Iraq as the newest front. Compared to the panicked fire- breathers who've declared the war a nightmarish quagmire, Bush is tempered, sober, a man conscious of the mission's gravity.

Bush's task is staggering and will daunt his successors no matter how many call for our soldiers to come home. Like the Cold War challenged presidents from Truman to Reagan, there can be no standing down. This is a world war where the terrorists hide within the borders of even so-called friendly nations where they can ignite a maelstrom of violence if support for the U.S. is shown.

This war can have but two outcomes. The United States can either meld into the morally nebulous United Nations and make ourselves vulnerable to bombings and blackmail, or eviscerate nation states that sustain the enemy.

Why this is so hard for some to accept is bewildering. Would we not have invaded a nation that harbored escaping Nazi soldiers?

The chore is fraught with danger, but, so far, we've done amazingly well. We've toppled Saddam Hussein and crippled al Qaeda. Yes, the barbarians are fighting back, as expected.

The critics who blame Bush for not having an exit strategy misunderstand our mission. We must destroy the terrorists where they breed to prevent them from breeding here.

The reality is that 90 percent of Iraq is at peace and its people are returning to a life free from state-sponsored torture. The terrorists have descended in a convergence fed by Iran, Saddam's hardliners and others threatened by freedom's foothold in Iraq.

Let's be clear. Democracy in Iraq will be born not as it was in 1776 Philadelphia, but like in the American frontier where civilization took root among the families and homesteaders who survived "Bloody Kansas" and the Johnson County range wars. Freedom blossomed from small towns and mining camps, but it took time and security.

We are dragging a society from the Dark Ages while stunting the homicidal killers opposed to freedom's foothold. There will be brutal factions. We had them here. And we survived them.

Critics who mock Bush's dream of democracy show a stunning ignorance of their own history and a skepticism of the concept that man-all men- yearn to be free and, when given a chance, will band together to pursue their own happiness against tyrants.

The world two years post-9/11 is dominated by the voices of trepidation and craven political pandering.

We urge a return to the courage and sacrifice that followed the 9/11 attacks. It's the only way we will destroy the enemy and keep them from our shores.

It makes me crazy to read news media stories that Americans are scared to death or hysterical over terrorist attacks. Every time the treasonous news media prints that garbage, they give the terrorists another victory. Everywhere I go, I see people behaving with quiet resolve, but I read in the news media how panicked we are. The DemonRats try to feed that fire, too. Bunch of dirtbags.

One outstanding fact remains:

We still have not locked down our borders, therefore, I do not believe this is a real "war" on terrorism. This should have been done no later 9/12/01. Why hasn't it been done?

Oh, wait a minute, I know, the republicans actually believe they will receive votes from the illegals and don't want to interfere with the influx of these people.

Bush's pal, Vicente Fox, would not be pleased if we closed our borders.

It's not that alarming to most conservatives. We're wholly used to this childish behavior on the part of the Democrats.

Great point: This war can have but two outcomes. The United States can either meld into the morally nebulous United Nations and make ourselves vulnerable to bombings and blackmail, or eviscerate nation states that sustain the enemy.

Note to Demo-whiner wanna-be's: SHUT UP AND FIGHT! If you're not with us, you're with the terrorists!
