Hello-
My Isabel story isn't as bad as I was afraid it was going to be. Mr. iceskater did a lot around the house to prepare before the storm hit. We lost power around 9pm on Thursday. We lost water Thursday night also. We got the water back on Saturday. Thank heavens we have a gas water heater so we could at least take warm showers. We just got our power back yesterday.

My house is surrounded by trees and we didn't lose one single tree. It really was a miracle. I fully expected to lose a few and not one came down! Lots of branches and leaves all over the place but no severe damage at all. In fact, there really weren't that many trees down in our neighborhood at all. Some people weren't so lucky - one neighbor had a tree fall across the driveway and took out both cars. But in general, it wasn't too bad. No injuries or deaths that I know about.

The power thing was the most frustrating. We will be investing in a generator (this isn't the first time we've lost power like this). I will be writing letters to Dominion Power, the State Corporation Commission and members of the legislature. I had to throw away almost all of my food in the fridge and freezer. That was so frustrating. We did some cook-outs and fed a bunch of people rather than have it all go totally to waste. But even with that, we threw away hundreds of dollars worth of food. I went to the grocery store last night - I've never seen the shelves so bare. Everyone is in the same boat.

My family was all ok. One sister and her family still don't have power but everyone else is back online.

We had a bad storm roll through this morning about 5am. The rain was torential and there were 2 tornados in the Richmond area. We had more mud from the rain this morning than from the hurricane. The poor guy across the street lost half of his driveway this morning.

But after it's all said and done, it really could've been so much worse. So, I can't complain too much. Hope everyone else is doing ok.

Hi Pippin.. so sorry you are stil without "official" power.
Just listening to Glenn Beck & he said some of the places might be without for up to a month because they need to MAKE the transformers needed.

Nice to "see " you... and I LOVE your reason Issy is a republican..

Corin-
Call Va. Power EVERY day until you get your power back. Seriously, I think the squeaky wheel gets the grease in this case. We went around our neighborhood on Sunday telling everyone to call about the power. We got ours back yesterday morning. I don't know if our calling helped but it sure didn't hurt.
There is a way to call them and talk to an actual live person. Do that too.

Yes, I know a lot of people who lost of $ on food. Around here, that's a big thing. I have to say, the Red Cross has been terrific about providing hot meals and FEMA has done a *great* job delivery wet ice. The utility company's dry ice deliveries were absurdly dismal: too little, poorly distributed in huge lines.

We pay for these utility companies to have standby crews to put the power on. One wonders where the $ is really going. I have expect to hear Dick Grasso is involved.

Oh, don't even get me started on Dominion Power's dry ice distribution plan. They were supposed to provide free dry ice at their office that is within blocks of my house. Mr. ice went and waited in line for 4 hours only to be told that the shipment was delayed and come back at 7pm. What they failed to mention on their public service announcements was that they were limiting the amount of dry ice to 2 10"x10"x2" blocks. That's not worth 4 hours of standing in line. Ridiculous. Frankly, I'd rather they spend that energy on fixing the blankety-blank power lines.

Thanks. LOL, LAZY is another word that comes to mind. I've been so busy with the hurricane.

Hey Biilie, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit has said in a unanimous enbanc decision:

THE DECISION TO RECALL THE RECALL IS RECALLED!!

Um, I think that means that the vote is on.

 9. The United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit didn't try to stop it.

That doesn't make sense! The 9th Circuit *would* try to stop it.

10. It was an expensive mess.
3. Its statistics were overblown, inaccurate, and highly misleading.

These two seem to contradict each other.

Well, at least you had nice graphics.

:-)

Hi, Free!

There was some in the low lying places and in parts of Glen Burnine in Anne Arundel County.

My Hurricane story is Since I work for the federal government our building was closed both days which was all right since the light rail trian wasn't running (is't powered by electricity, need I say more, LOL) I had no power most of Friday but where I work in Baltimore was worse off!

I'm praying for the people and merchants in Fells Point and in the Inner Harbor. Please keep them in your prayers. Baltimore was a real mess but Mayor O'Malley kept on top of everything. And keep in your prayers those folks who live in the areas (especially in Baltimore City and County) that have no power yet.

LOL! Well, DUH! Like JohnHuang said in his essay last week, enough voters figured out how to use that terribly complicated voting machine to vote for Davis before - what? they got stupider since then and forgot how to use it?
