Hillary's 'Worst Nightmare': Judicial Watch's Klayman Runs for the Senate
Newsmax ^ | Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Larry Klayman, chairman of the anti-corruption watchdog organization Judicial Watch, has joined the race for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat held by White House wannabe Bob Graham.

"I will be the conservative antidote for Hillary Clinton," he said. "I will be her worst nightmare."

His campaign will focus on security, corruption and government waste, he said in advance of his formal announcement, scheduled for today in Tampa.

"We have an urgent need here because we have 1,800 miles of coastline. And we are very high on the target list of terrorists," said Klayman, a Miamian.

Today's Orlando Sentinel, like other members of the media establishment, describes Judicial Watch as "conservative" even though the organization has targeted the Bush administration as well as the Clintons.

Other Republicans seeking the nomination, now that U.S. Rep. Mark Foley has left the race, include state House Speaker Johnnie Byrd, former U.S. Rep. Bill McCollum, state Sen. Daniel Webster and U.S. Rep. Dave Weldon.

Democrats going after Graham's seat, which he hasn't yet abandoned, are former state Education Commissioner Betty Castor, Miami-Dade Mayor Alex Penelas, and U.S. Reps. Allen Boyd, Peter Deutsch and Alcee Hastings.

'Other Endeavors'

Klayman has resigned as chairman and general counsel of Judicial Watch "to pursue other endeavors," the organization announced today.

"Larry conceived, founded and helped build Judicial Watch to the organization it is today, and we will miss his day to day involvement," said Tom Fitton, president. "Judicial Watch now has a very strong presence and has become the leading nonpartisan, public interest watchdog seeking to promote and ensure ethics in government, and Larry leaves us well positioned to continue our important work."

Has a chance of what? Surely you are not suggesting he has a chance of being elected.

"He should get Roy Moore to run his campaign so they will win 100% off the wack-job vote."

Yeah...wackjobs...you know them, the people who are trying to establish a religion by having a stone monument sneaked into an Alabama courthouse in the dread of night!

The wackjobs who think that the Constitution means "Congress shall establish no law" when it states "Congress shall establish no law..."

Yeah, those people are very dangerous. We should have them rounded up. Maybe we should make them carry papers or something. Paging Michael McDermott and his clones...

What a strange handle for an anti-Klayman post.

Why is that? Klayman doesn't strike me as particularly conservative, just as an opportunistic lawyer who likes to use litigation to annoy whoever happens to be in power and to raise funds. His specialty is make-works projects for trial lawyers.

Are you arguing that most elected officials are great and wise men?

Larry was the only game in town during the Clinton years. He filed FOIA for documents on Vince Foster, Barbara Wise, Ron Brown amongst others, and the depositions he took on Chinese contributions will be in the footnotes for historians decades from now.

Ann Coulter noted his importance to the cause in her 1998 book, 'High Crimes and Misdemeanors.'

Larry was a friend to the cause and, along with Bob Tyrell, the center of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy.

No, and I am curious as to how you would infer such a thing from my post. I am merely arguing that Klayman has been ineffective, has shown himself to be little more than a self-aggrandizing promoter, using dubious litigation to be a gadfly to whomever happens be in power at the moment. If he is as effective as a campaigner and legislator as he is as a trial attorney, we are definitely better off without him.

That may not be a great resume for becoming a leader, but it doesn't disqualify you from getting elected.

Judge: Mr. Hutz w've been in here for four hours. Do you have any evidence at all?
Hutz: Well, Your Honor. We've plenty of hearsay and conjecture. Those are kinds of evidence.

Never heard of this guy. Based on the responses here, none of you who do know him have any respect for him. Is he really a Barney Fife type?

He failed, along with everyone else, to bring down Clinton. Since then he's irritated the Bush administration by continuing to dig up skeletons. He's an inneffectual lawyer, but he does the job the press is supposed to do. He is unlikely to be loyal to any party.

All during the Clinton administration, Larry always had the "next big thing" that was going to sink the Clintons...and he always needed donations to help him do it.

He certainly won't have my vote in the Florida Republican primary, and I doubt if he'll be able to top %10.
It's too important to be rid of Bob Graham. There won't be much patience with Larry using us as pawns in his game.

Check out the Judicial Watch website at www.judicialwatch.org for a listing of all the lawsuits filed (plus requests for money). The filing of a suit was trumpeted here on FR with a press release. However, later when the suit was dismissed, or lost on appeal, no notice was ever given. The JW website is also not updated for the suits they loose (they still list them as active litigation). Klayman often used frivolous suits as an excuse to harass defendants through his mis-use of the federal court's discovery process.

That is why he has a bad rep here at FR. Oh, and if he finds out that you say anything bad about him, he sues for defamation. (It's said that he once sued his own mother in a dispute over property.)
