My wife and I adopted a greyhound 5 years ago (or should I say he adopted us?) and he has been the best, most gentle, relaxed dog that we have ever owned.
He was a former racer in Melbourne, Florida (not a terrible good one, I'm afraid) and we adopted him when he was 3 years old.
He is now Mr. "Man-about-town" in our neighborhood, and a favorite among the children in our community.
I recommend greyhound adoption highly. They are wonderful dogs.

....he has been the best, most gentle, relaxed dog that we have ever owned.Years ago, I had a racing greyhound that I raised on the farm. It was a pup when we got him, and that dog was so gentle. We trained him to herd the cattle and sheep. You just had to point to the pasture and say, "Go get 'em". He would bring them all to the barnyard for the night.
He could jump the 6' yard fence from a standstill. His favorite trick, was to stand on his hind legs and look into cars or pickups when we got visitors. There were several salsemen who refused to get out of their vehicles when he was around.

A neighbor of mine adopted a retired greyhound about 5 years ago, and oh my goodness, that dog is precious! Great with kids, never has an accident, calm, loveable, a real couch potato pooch.

I have basenjis (an ancient breed like the greyhound), but every adopted greyhound I've met was a fine, gentle, animal. Thanks for saving one.
